Totally. Teen culture was invented just for them. Got 'em started young. Abd they got their pensions locked in and closed that door behind them. On top of that, one person can't forcibly saddle his grandchildren with his medical bills. But subsidize medicine and charge it to the national debt and voila: longest lives in history thanks to the babies' babies' pensionless labor.
Yup... the ripples of World War II are still affecting the world nearly 100 years later - not in the least part because the Greatest Generation Ever came back and instantly started breeding the most entitled generation.

My grandparents built their house in La Riviera for $10,000. It's a 4 bedroom 2 bath with a family room. Sometimes I wish I had a time machine.
I think my grandparents paid $55k for their house in Sacramento in 1955.
I sold it in 2009 for $850,000 in a down market.

I took over payments on building a condo in Siem Reap for about 50k. If Covid ever lets up we can airBnB it for 50 a night because it's close to the Angkor Wat temple.
You own property in Cambodia?

Indirectly. It's in my girl's name and she sends me photos of the paperwork and payments and progress on construction. I fully recognize this may be me throwing money in the toilet but I'm choosing to trust anyway and I'm okay with that. The idea is that if you own property it's easier to get the government to let you have a Visa to travel aboard because you're probably coming back. I would have gone to visit already but Covid makes the whole world stupid.

Is your girl Cambodian? Have you met her IRL?
I mean - even if the answer is YES and NO respectively, it doesn't mean it isn't a real thing - and if the investment gives you good feelz - that is the most important thing, really.
Yeah, the Covid travel thing is why I'm vaccinated. Got a trip to Europe coming up. All the Right Wingers who never leave their trailerpark act like it is a conspiracy of the US Government to force us to vaccinate - but really, the vaccine passport isn't OUR fault as a nation. It is largely Europe's fault - and if they want to say, "no vaccine, no visit..." I don't see how it is our right to tell them no.

Yeah she's Cambodian. Her aunt is married to the brother of my boss, and both my boss and his other brother have met Kimleng in person and know her pretty well. We talk on Facebook Messenger every day through text and sometimes have a video call. She's got a good sense of humour and a great voice, she's pretty and has none of the entitlement issues that american girls come pre-equipped with. Living in a communist hellhole is great for perspective.
I have no intention of getting a vaccine, but if it would let me visit her I'd do it. There are some fairly significant unexpected effects that are more of a risk for me based on family history than they are for most people, so I'm going to wait to see if my sisters die from it first. If it's still something people are worried about in a year, I'll get vaccinated. In the meantime I never go anywhere and the odds of me getting infected are virtually zero.

Being a junkie isn't rock bottom. Being the junkie that another junkie uses to motivate himself to get clean and stay straight is rock bottom.

I think that makes good sense. What spawned the thought?
It was just a random thought - A "showerthought", I guess... I guess I was thinking of the other people my old boss used to hire, and the guy who is kind of the warehouse manager at the location.
That guy feels like he hit rock bottom, but he is surrounded by people who come and go who really *are* rock bottom. If you can't hold that job when you NEED to, life is going to be rough going forward.
