So I've dug my Amiga 1200 out of storage after 15 years and I realized I completely forgotten everything about it. I tried to look up some documentation online on how to set up the compact flash/pcmcia on my Amiga 1200 and after spending a few days I'm still scratching my head.

I have copied CompactFlash.device in the Devs folder, CF0 in the storage/devs DOSDrivers folder to be activated manually, and FAT95 in the L folder. I downloaded the files off the install tutorial: CF0 showing up as ver 1.21 last changed 19-Oct-2002 21:43:40

As you can see in the pic the device shows up in prepcard, but for some reason it doesn't see to show up on the workbench when I try to run CF0 to mount it manually. When I try to change drive to CF0 from shell it just freezes up the computer. It also freezes the Amiga if I try to boot with the compact flash card in the PCMCIA slot with CF0 file in the devs\DOSdrivers folder

Any ideas? I am running Kickstart ver 39.106, exec version 39.47, disk version 39.29. The default 2 megs of memory and no mem expansion. The workbench is installed and booted from the internal HD.

Is it possible that CF0 is not compatible with my PCMCIA adapter? It is a generic Chinese one that is probably a mass produced Sandisk that they put a new label on. The Compact flash is a lexar 4x 128 mb card from an old camera that I reformated on the PC to be used for this test as I have no other cards available.

My a500 will transmit video through scart and audio through cinch to my old lcd tv. But the tv will not combine the two signals so I have either an image or audio. My scart cable has cinch audio as well but no sound from those (it’s a new cable). So there’s my puzzle.

I guess it’s not even purely an amiga question maybe. But does the a500 rgb port even give off an audio signal at all? I read conflicting reports.

I didn't. Just stumbeled across this, fascinating stuff. Looks like the Amiga had a very good expansion device to support sstv in 1989 called the Amiga AVT System.

I've had a box of Amiga disks sitting on a shelf for nearly thirty years - at this point, they were more like souvenirs of my youth than anything useful. I was resigned to the fact that the old AMOS games I had made and saved on them would never again see the light of day, since I haven't had access to a machine that could read them in decades. That changed a couple of months ago when a friend was clearing out their attic in preparation for a move overseas and asked me if I wanted their old Amiga.

After a bit of an education in setting up a serial connection, I managed to copy the data onto my PC and use it to create disk images that I could run in an emulator. Getting to revisit the projects I worked on as a teenager was quite an experience - I documented the whole journey in case anyone else is interested in the data transfer process or wants to see what a teenager in New Zealand was doing with AMOS Basic in the early 90s:
