Subject: Debugging an existing binary to determine address of crash

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have an existing binary that when I start from the CLI fails with a CHK instruction failure when I run it in FS-UAE. I have a suspicion that it may be looking for a dongle or specific piece of hardware, but want to verify if that is the case. I’ve been able to disassemble the binary, but realized I don’t know what address the exception is being thrown at.

Is there a good tutorial on using the FS-UAE console debugger or a better tool/emulator I should use for this case? I’m not new to this on the c64 platform and 6502, but this is my first foray into Amiga and 68k.

Subject: I’m really glad the Amiga never died.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I recently picked up an Apollo Vampire V4+ stand-alone as my first Amiga in decades and it’s pretty great. It’s a fantastic flavor of new Amiga for someone who wants to get back into the platform.

Beyond that it’s amazing to see all of the other flavors of Amiga that still exist! With ApolloOS, Classic, 4.0, MorphOS, and Aros, the Amiga is more alive than ever. The Amiga was and is special to a lot of people and the community has blossomed into a bunch of groups who can focus on the parts of the Amiga that they love the most. It’s a beautiful thing!

Subject: Recapping service in NL?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Can anyone recommend a recapping service in The Netherlands?

My A1200 Rev 2B needs doing.

Would be great to get timing fixes done at the same time too.

I sent a message on tsb.space last week but didn’t get a reply yet so thought I’d ask on here for another option.

Subject: Attic find - A1200

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all.

I was recently going through boxes of my Grandad's old stuff I had been given back in 2005 after he passed and came across a pre Escom (having checked the dates online) Amiga 1200 with original Power pack.

Unfortunately it has no mouse or software with it but powers on ok and scfreen output is fine. Inside there is a caddy for a HDD by the looks of it

I was never lucky enough to have an Amiga (or anything else back then) so it's all very new to me. Could anyone point me to some resources to help me get this running to it's full potential or beyond if there are any clever mods. Quite happy for this to be a long project!

Thank you !

Subject: Which A1200 to keep?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Which A1200 to keep?

I started collecting about 20 years ago. Back then it was a lot cheaper :) So I have two A1200's One A1200 was given to me by a colleague and the other I bought from a second hand site but can't remember when or how. I also own an A500 with a Gotek and an external floppy drive. 3 Amiga's in total.

One A1200 is a Commodore one and another Escom. The Commodore one has a 3.5 inch 120MB harddisk built in which still works. It also has an accelerator card with 8MB of RAM. Escom one is vanilla.

I want to go for quality over quantity and sell one of the A1200's. Both of them need a recap too. The Escom one is more recent I guess but which one should I keep?

Basically, all I want to do is explore software from the era including games of course from time to time. Another question: isn't the A500 the better choice when it comes to games with regards to compatibility?

Subject: Need help

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

My father recently passed away and was a large part of the community. I have a lot of Amiga items I need help to identify. I’m tech savvy but not like this. I would take pictures but there is a lot. Please someone reach out via PM and assist. We can video chat to show items and if anything is useful for the community. Thank you

Subject: The A500 Mini and RetroArch

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm using Pandory on the A500 Mini to run RetroArch and it pretty much works great. There are just two things I haven't been able to figure out how to do.

  1. How do you import box-art images along with the games (usually you can do this directly inside RetroArch but as the A500 isn't connected to the internet I'm assuming there must be a way to do it via the USB).
  2. How do you swap out the Pandory background image for a custom wallpaper? I've seen the 'background image' option in the Settings menu, but when I try selecting anything at all I get immediately taken back to the A500 Mini launcher.

Thanks Amigos!
