Subject: Shell MakeDir using a variable?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi All

I am no expert in shell, I want to use Shell to create a folder using a variable, I tried this bit no joy.

Set T "helloWord" MakeDir Work:$T

Any advise? Also it possible to extract just the date e.g "Friday 20-Jan-23" from the Date command?

If you're wondering I want to create a script to create a backup folder named todays date and copy the contents from my working folder into it. Then when I want to backup I jsut run the script. :D

Thanks

Subject: Auto temp controlled fan? (self-contained)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'd like to get a temp controlled fan for my A1200. Any suggestions that are self contained? I don't want to add anymore hardware to the system itself. I would like some temp control though - so an independent (can be USB powered) fan what comes with a sensor to turn on/off by temp would be great.

Subject: Cannon Fodder ranks question

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I've read online that ranks affect gun range, rate of fire, accuracy, and how fancy a soldier's gravestone is. Rank increases from a soldier surviving a mission. Are all of these true? Some guides don't mention any of it.

Subject: Amiga printer cable

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi there! Maybe a stupid question. I have an old but working Epson LX printer and want to connect it to my Amigas, either 500 and 1200.

As I was about to buy a standard Centronics cable from Amazon or another shop, I remember something about the pinout.

It looks like pin 14 of the cable has something different from the standard PC Centronics cable to Amiga parallel port pinout. However, after checking the WWW, I was unable to make my mind straight about if it's ok or not to use that one.

Can anybody tell me something solid before I plug it in?

Subject: Amiga Mini/Pandory Question

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So recently got my sticky hands on an Amiga Minim and apart from a couple of niggles it's going well.

I installed Pandory (for that extra emulation goodness) trouble is there is a tune that plays and repeats on the menu page.

The tune is OK for one listen but soon gets old. So my question is - how do I stop it and bonus question - can I install my own music ?

Cheers

Subject: Question about Amiga?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

In my previous post I talked about getting out my Amiga computers after being stored away for 30 years. Now, I'm asking myself what I can do with them in 2023? In 2 of them the hard drives will need to be replaced. Instead of a hard drive maybe a flash drive would be a better option. Or perhaps an accelerator board for the 1200. The list goes on and on. I've been checking some youtube videos and only now to I realize that I need to reeducate myself on what is possible and at what cost. I'm curious, what does everyone use their Amiga computer for today?

After Commodore closed, I of course took an interest in IBM compatible PC. I taught myself how to build my own and continue to do it today. As far as games go, I love my Xbox and playing them on my 50-inch tv. I loved my Amiga computers but that was 30 years ago.

Subject: How do I know if my A500 PSU is faulty or the Amiga 500?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I retrieved my original A500 from the loft where it had been wrapped up and stored for many years. So no surprise I have had problems starting it. It booted up fine on the first day but now I think the power supply may have gone (it's the original). It powers on for a little it then dies. Leave it for a while and it can power on again.

I have tested the output connection voltages with a multimeter and it looks like it is putting power out from the PSU but not sure if it is continuous. Before I get a new PSU are there any ways to test if it is the Amiga or the PSU that's playing up?
