Subject: OnEscapee Query

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello Everyone,

Is anyone able to tell me if the Amiga CD game OnEscapee is available in a format that can be played on the recent Amiga A500 mini? I have just found the game and would like to play it as I love Another World and the Flashback games.

Thanks for any help

Does anyone know if this clockport adapter is compatible with the pistorm?

https://www.amiga-shop.net/en/Amiga-Hardware/Amiga-classic-hardware/Amiga-500-Clockport-Adapter::1122.html

This would be a really nifty addition and could be used for a subway etc. the rig of course wouldnโ€™t fit in the case and close but.clockport adapter

It was asked on Reddit 1000 times im the past l, but the time is now... I working on Amiga 500 rev 8a.1 and I want to add some turbo card with ide support and enough juice to run WHDload and let me tinker around with stuff. I want something that is accesible to buy and wont bust my wallet... It don't have to change my piece i to A1200 with Blizzard card... But its hard to get anything, everything is out of stock... Subject: Fav. Amiga mod of all time? Mine is "Pipes of Lost Time"

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

As a kid I got an Amiga 500 and then went straight to my mate's place down the street to get a copy of SoundTracker. I had seen a bunch of mod demos and I was hooked.

Later it became ProTracker and Octamed. So much fun exploring music.

Eventually I stumbled across this tune - Pipes of Lost Time, which came on a free disk attached to an Amiga magazine at the time. To this day this tune still pops in my head from time to time. I think it is my fav. tracker mod from the Amiga days.

I was so happy to find someone exported and uploaded it.

Got a personal fav to share?

Subject: Audio in Paula : integer scaling

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I like that Paula has period registers which allows to scale samples along the time axis without any aliasing artefacts due to rounding. Apparently it inherited a PWM gate from the Sid. Some circuitry which behaves like a Relais and lets analog signals pass without distortion due to a transistor . Is that just a mosfet? Or some OpAmp?

And Paula can do analog add for two channels. Usually this would be an OpAmp, but maybe here two gates end into one? Similar to the silly two pulse widths modulation in TED.

I read that two 8bit channels into one create 14 bits? They should have made two 6bit PWD channels. One of them charges an RC network. The gate passes through a blip of this between the other pulses.

Probably they were proud about their multiplication trick, but digital multiplication isnโ€™t really slow, especially if only 8bits times 6bits are involved. There would be one MUL per period and channel. Modulation isnโ€™t more expensive , we just have to let go of volume control in this mode. PWM introduces its own timing and thus aliasing problems. I wish they would have used the 12 bit R2R network from Sid. Or go mainstream and let PWM sampling rate dominate. To fight aliasing we then really need bilinear interpolation. Behind the 64 cycle PWM of Paula we can hide like 8 MULs. Have dedicated circuit for volume MUL on load from DMA? But then everything better has 16 bit. Uh oh. Volume after interpolation, dedicated circuit with more bits on output. Expensive.

What are we supposed to do if period falls below 124? Use the CPU to average down one octave? I understand that the square pattern sounds like it part of the sample.

Integer scaling still allows for a lot of channels, or not? If any channel wants to be able to withdraw its old value and deposit a new one, collision becomes a problem. Need a queue. Or active circuits instead of SRAM.

Subject: Amiga A501 Rev5 512K Ram expansion with clock. Clock not incrementing

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey folks,

I bought a used RAM expansion board, A501 with RTC. It had a nasty VARTA battery, and I have since removed it and cleaned it up. I also added a coin cell adaptor with diode to replace the old battery.

Now the memory works fine, but the clock, while it does get recognized, will not count up. It stays where it is, and does save after power off. It just never increments.

Would that be a faulty RTC chip, or do I just need to replace the oscillator?

super recommend this, its an amazing tool

Automated installs, including WHDload. You'll obviously have to provide your own legal ROM's and WHD load collection. You can then "burn" the HDF to CF card & boot! it's amazing, really.
