Subject: newbie to amiga programming - cross or what?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi,

I am totally new to amiga development. Would like to start writing something (i.e. simple game).

What would you advice: ASM or C?

I ask as I am a bit afraid of ASM learning curve.

BUT: would you go with native tools or with cross compiling?

Probably this was already asked, but after googling that for some days without decision, asking humans seems might work better :)

Subject: Commodore 1083S monitor humming from speakers

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi,
My Commodore 1083S (almost identical to 1084) has been in storage for ~30 years. I just got it back, it works, but there is a very noticeable humming coming from both speakers. The humming is there whether an audio source is connected or not.

Any clue on where I should start looking? I had to resolder the video connector, so it's already open :)

Thanks in advance.

Subject: Amiga HDF issue on MiSTer

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello,

Not sure if anyone can help, but I have an HDF that is 16gb. It is mounted in AmigaOS 3.2. The drive seems to be fine starting out, but after awhile it seems to corrupt. I get a bunch of errors when trying to do things to it like copy files, or save games. Once it starts it does not stop. I actually had run an FSCK the last time it happened. It took DAYS and found no issues. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening, or what might fix it?

UPDATE - I believe I may have gotten this resolved. What I did was made a copy of the data I had on that partition. It was mainly a WHDLoad collection. I then used HDToolbox to resize the partitions to 8GB each. I found that the 16GB partition with the issues was using the Professional Filesystem already. I used the PFS to format the two new 8GB partitions. At this time they appear to be stable. I installed a few things on them and copied the WHDLoad collection back. Hopefully it will remain stable. Thanks everyone who had replied.

Subject: Another Amiga story

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

In 1992 I was still into my Amiga but my parents had got their first PC and I was pretty impressed with the VGA games as well as Windows 3.1. On the Amiga BBS's their was good natured PC vs Amiga debate. My best friend at the time was very much into the PC scene. Long story short we were talking to some chaps who said lets put it to the test. They made an Amiga demo tape and we did the same for PC. Well, we got smoked. They had a genloc and toaster and produced this extremely professional video showcasing the power of the Amiga. I swear people who worked at Commodore could not have done better. These guys really did that amazing a job. Sadly I lost all my VHS tapes 20 years ago. I don't remember the name of the BBS we met on but it was in the 708 area code. It's a small world maybe just maybe they are on here.

Subject: Any Phoenix area Amiga BBS users from the mid-90's?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm trying to remember the names of the BBS's I used to dial into back in the day when I was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. I recall two: AmAz! (Amiga Arizona) and Procrastination Nation, but I know there were a few more. I remember chatting with Procrastination's sysop quite a bit! His handle was "Daak" and he was responsible for convincing me to check out this crazy thing called the Internet.

Life changing stuff.
