Subject: New AmiKit 11.5: Modern Retro Amiga Experience on Windows, Mac and Linux
Hi. I have experience in multiple languages, but find it hard to install languages. Can anyone provide a guide for how to start programming with assembly or C on the Amiga? All the guides I've found use some kind of software I can't find digitised versions of.

Hi all. In recent days I've been playing with a virtual Amiga (to make use of a Raspberry Pi that I've had for some time), so have been learning how to install and configure the Amiga from scratch. I've come up against an issue I don't quite understand, so thought it might be faster to ask the community rather than keep searching somewhat fruitlessly.
While installing a number of programs from Aminet to try out, I'm trying to replace the icons for each of their respective drawers. I've downloaded some collections of drawer icons, and for the most part have been able to swap the icons out purely by using the copy command in the shell - renaming the info file to match the drawer name while copying.
Here's where my knowledge runs out - sometimes it doesn't work.
Sometimes the drawer doesn't work any more after copying the icon.info file into place - while the icon appears correctly, it reports "The icon(s) have no default tool" when clicked on within Workbench.
If I view icon information on a drawer that doesn't work, it has a "default tool" field available - which working drawer icons do not.
Can anybody give me a heads-up what this means? I'm sure it's probably straightforward, but I'm still at the stage of not knowing what I don't know - if that makes any sense.
p.s. running Workbench 3.1

Hi all,
I have pre-ordered the A500 mini in an effort regain some misbegotten youth, excited by the prospect of being able to side-load additional games via USB.
I know that it requires WHDLoad to run the games on the A500mini. What I'm struggling with, is what the process would be to get games data from my Amiga 600 floppy disks (of which I have lots), onto the USB in a format that would be readable by the A500 mini. I'll be the first to admit I'm a complete novice when it comes to this, so apologies for how basic this post reads, but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I just wanted to ask if it is normal that my old Amiga Monitor smells very strong like "old electronics" or whatever that strange smell is. I don't remember it having a smell when I was a teen. Now when I turn it on, the entire room got this weird very strong smell after 10 mins. I tried leaving it on for a couple of hours, but the smell stayed.

Subject: Can anyone do an ELI5 on the difference between buying the 500mini and running an emulator on PC?
Admittedly I've not read a great deal on the a500 mini but was wondering whether it's worth buying or whether it's just a fancy looking thing to have. Is it easier (better?) to just run an emulator on a PC and load ADF's from there?
TIA

Subject: I had a chance to buy a cheap A500 untested, but there was a red flag so I didn’t buy it (should I have?)
I tried to get as much of my main message in the title as possible.
Basically, I had a chance to get a low priced A500, presumably NTSC for about $220 USD or $275 CAD. It sounded nice except for one problem, this one was listed as untested right along side a tested working one for twice the price by the same seller.
Was a right to avoid this untested Amiga? My gut feeling said it was likely damaged or had dead custom chips which would be expensive to replace.

Somehow, there's no subreddit for The Town With No Name for the Commodore CDTV, so I made one myself.

I've made a fully functioning ASM program, but I've no idea how to turn it into a file accessible by workbench. How do I do this? Thanks.

Subject: How to install whdload to usb stick for the A500 mini
Preordered my mini A500 and downloaded the whdload installer from retrogames. Do I just unpack it to the root of the USB stick?

Subject: Will the PiStorm ever be a reliable solution for Amiga gaming?
So…long story short: I had a PiStorm delivered this week and l’m loving seeing my Amiga 500 do things it’s never been capable of before.
One thing it doesn’t do well though is gaming. I know this is a known fact, but I’m curious as to whether that’s likely ever to improve. Given the emulator runs under a Linux OS and suffers from obvious timing issues, I totally understand the limitations.
Is this ever likely to improve? I have a second 500 on hand, so I guess I’ll reserve that for gaming, for now at least.
