Subject: Amiga 1200 IDE Stock Maximum CF Size

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi guys!

My question is simple. I have stock A1200 with working 8GB card. 3.0 ROM (will be buying 3.2 OS and rom sticks) What is the maximum CF card I could use? I would like to use 32GB, would that be OK, considering I upgrade rom to 3.2?

I will be getting TF1230 in the close future. Thank you and have a nice day!

Subject: Rick Dangerous (Game) Issue (SCA Amiga Virus)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Every program/game/floppy I ever had was Pirated thru Commodore Oaks, save one which I purchased.

It was Rick Dangerous, I got it C.O.D. through a magazine; probably. Great game... it was the Super Mario Brothers of Amiga. The damn Game kept failing and never re-booting. Kept getting it replaced; gave up!

Well, I just read (on Wikipedia) about the SCA Virus. (Which I had in abundance)

"If custom bootblocks were used (such as games), disks are rendered unusable."

FUCK!!!

Subject: Homemade adapter to use amiga joystick on pc? Any tips? Tricks? Cheap schematics? :)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Funny thing, I actually do made one of those myself! I got usb gamepad and rewired buttons onto dsub connector, and it actually worked! It was kinda ugly and worked clunky with lag or skips, but it worked! Now I want to make it well. Anybody know some easy to do circuits ? I can make everything except to program microcontrollers. No equipment and knowledge for that :(

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I just found about 20 or 25 old Amiga World Magazines. I’d rather not throw them away, i’d like to pass them on to someone else. I’ll give them away for free just cover the cost of shipping. Let me know if you’re interested.

Subject: Whats the best entry model for someone looking to get into original hardware?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Been intrested in getting an actual Amiga for years. Particularly an A1200 because i have an odd softspot for those weird AGA Doom-clones.

Last i checked Amigas where getting terribly pricey. Especially on Ebay. Does anyone know where and if its still possible to get a semi budget-friendly entry into real hardware (So no Mister. Original hardware). Maybe an A500? Or is it all Neo Geo esq prices now.

Subject: HyperCache for Amiga - Author Releases Code to Web

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Today a viewer named Matthew reached out and challenged me to publish the source code to the well-known Amiga product "HyperCache", which I wrote in the late 80s, early 90s. This version might also have code from a contractor whose name I can't locate at the moment!

In any event, I thought you might find it interesting. For one thing, it's code I wrote 30 years ago when I was still learning C, so be kind!

There's some fun 68K asm as well, in the form of QuickerMemCpy, which even handles unaligned memory. It then copies the aligned section with an unrolled 64-bit loop, stuff like that.

https://github.com/PlummersSoftwareLLC/HyperCacheAmiga

Just a quick note that while the license remains unchanged, users that are able to compile it for themselves with Lattice are welcome to use a copy :-)

Subject: How is 3D 3.456 dots possible on Amiga 500?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I used to program a few demo on A500 in the 90s and there are several tricks I'd like to understand. For example 3.456 dots 50FPS on A500 with shape that change made by Hannibal on Anarchy's 3D Demo 2. Do you have some pointers on how this is possible? https://youtu.be/5NPPPDCJ6R4?t=179
