Subject: Is the Amiga OS fully dead outside of the passionate non-corporate community or is it still being worked on/updated regularly?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Just as the title says.

Is the operating system being worked on or is it a lost cause that died with the company behind it?

I had found amigaos(dot)net with a list of sites supposedly selling copies of the OS if I interpreted it correctly, but from what I saw I didn't see any actual OS disks, boot drives, etc.

Only parts for repairing and replacing, so now I'm confused, as someone interested in alternative operating systems.

Subject: A pair of A1200s

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A while ago I'd planned on refurbishing at least one of my old A1200s. The cases and keyboards are all well yellowed, and I've got as far as dismantling, removing the vented electrolytic caps, picking up a handful of rubycons to replace, but never found the desire or the time to take it further. Particularly as I'm wondering if my PSUs are on the way out as well and nostalgia fixes are easy with the likes of Raspberry Pi. Sooo.. considering I'm in the UK, do these need to go on ebay? Or are there better avenues for sales? One is rev 1B, the other is rev 1D.4 Both are standard models. Thanks!

Subject: Will an Amiga 500 be suitable enough for playing the majority of games?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

As the title says, I'm looking at buying my first Amiga system mainly for gaming, will the A500 be suitable for this?

Any reasons not to go for this model?

Subject: A1000 front panel cover?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I’ve owned an A1000 since 1986 and it’s in excellent shape, but I have misplaced the front panel cover at some point. Anyone have a lead on a replacement? Thanks!

Subject: Floppy-less A500 hard drive options?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I found all the pieces of my ECS A500 recently, and would really like a mass storage solution. I used to use a (poorly) veroboarded A500IDE interface. But I would really like to be able to have it boot from mass storage. I had a look at what's around and found it a bit confusing. Because PCBs can be ordered cheaply these days I thought it might be time to build it a different interface. Can anyone help me with what's available that does this?

Thanks!

made a little projects site to document what I've done with my Amiga and reference the sites I've used

I have only done it for serial transfer on an A500+ from scratch so far, and I've done my best to make sure to credit anyone whose content I've heavily used or taken inspiration from.

After my post a few weeks ago about documentation and guides etc for the amiga, and finding it somewhat frustrating trawling through forum posts of people who aren't so explicit about what needs to be done for certain things. I thought to myself "I'm gonna make super basic site! even if I'm still a complete noob on the amiga, like I'm still unsure how to switch to baudbandit.device as a serial device haha

my super basic site

despite managing server infrastructures as a day job, I have never touched making my own site nor do I have an ounce of creativity in me so be warned, the site is reflective of that!

I think i need to grab some simulated screenshots from winuae to break up the wall of text.

I was thinking of doing my "get internet via serial ppp modem setup to linux PC" next

any ideas or constructive feedback?

I'm all ears!

Subject: Turrican 2 AGA MS-DOS conversion

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all,

I've recently been converting the MS-DOS version of Turrican 2 to AGA Amigas. It runs in 256 colours and requires Fast RAM. I just did a new release today that has the first two levels and the introduction sequence.

The enemies and bosses are all working, but the player cannot die yet and there are a few missing features here and there. All the same it is very playable and may be of interest to some.

I posted the original release in EAB, but thought I'd share it here too.

Dropbox link to ADF is here
