Subject: Unstable sync signal from A500

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

An Amiga 500 that worked well initially has started to get a weaker and weaker sync signal, now at the point where my OSSC cannot sync to it at all (DB23 to SCART cable.) Checking voltages:

The RGB port's 5V pin is a solid 5V, but the 12V pin is consistently 13V.

The PSU itself when not under load has: -11V on the -12V rail, 12.4V on the 12V rail, and 5.3V on the 5V rail.

Inspecting the PSU, it seems like the big 150uf/200V cap has leaked. But dunno if these voltages are at all related to sync problems. Any suggestions how to proceed with troubleshooting?

Subject: When loading any game with WHLoad I get the screen cut off on the bottom

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have winuae setup with workbench and some whload games. When I enter workbench the screen is correctly displayed full screen but maintaining aspect ratio. When I load any game with whload it has a black bar along the top of the screen and cuts off the bottom of all games by this amount (about 1 inch) it's very annoying and is preventing me from playing anything. I have tried messing around with the winUAE settings but it hasn't helped, also the fact that workbench displays correctly makes me think it's a setting within workbench/whload I need to change. I'm quite new to this if anyone can help. Thanks

Subject: Can you help me remember the name of an Amiga game?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi, I also posted this to /r/tipofmyjoystick - but I'm not expecting much luck in there, as this is pretty niche.

I'm trying to remember the name of a game I played on our A600 in the early to mid 90s.

My memory is hazy and I think we only had the demo version.

So on each level you had to commit a specific crime, and I *think* the aim of the game was actually to get arrested. Probably a point and click interface. Each level was confined to one location or room. No free roam or 'map'.

2D side-view, possibly in the style of the old LucasArts point and click.

The part I remember most was using TNT to blow through a brick wall into the back of a bank vault. At the end of the level the cops rolled up and busted you.

Sorry for lack of details, thanks in advance.

Subject: Confused about Buffee/TerribleFire

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Can anyone summarise what the Buffee and TerribleFire accelerators are that I’m reading about online, and if they are something useful for my A1200? I have an ACA1233n in my machine and a 68060r6 stored away awaiting a suitable card - so are these something I should be looking at, and how do they differ from the solutions we already have?
