Subject: Amiga 600HD install to PCMCIA connected compact flash?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi guys

So my old Amiga 600 lives but the hard disk is kaput. I happen to have a 64mb cf card and pcmcia adaptor... can I install workbench to this?

If yes - does anyone have images for the install disk and extras disk... seems my old floppies are corrupted but I have a gotek (pinched off my bbc model b) that is working

Subject: Amiga 600 Floppy Issues - won't boot.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I just recently re-capped my Amiga 600 (Rev 1.3 PCB). It had suffered from some leaky caps on the left hand side, which has destroyed the transistor at Q233 (I believe that's part of the blue output for the video port). The caps on the right hand side of the board had also leaked a bit but had not caused any obvious damage. The tracks underneath C307 on the back side look a bit iffy, but they have continuity so I think that's fine.

Before recapping it wouldn't power on (just a blank screen). Now it powers on to kickstart and looks happy enough, until you try and boot. If I put a disk in you hear it read three times ('tunk, tunk, tunk') then it sits and thinks for a second and goes back to kickstart. It does that on any disk I've tried. I swapped the floppy drive with one from an Amiga 1200 (which I know works) with cables, and same thing. The drive has the usual ticking, and it spins as I can see the spindle turning.

I have been doing some continuity checks using the pcbexplorer as a reference (albeit the rev 1.5 layout, it's pretty similar). I scoped out a few of the pins on the floppy, and down to Gayle and see signals, so there's definitley things going on. But something is wrong.

Any suggestions where I should look? My guess is a track is damaged somewhere and I've not noticed it. It suggests to me there's a data line possibly damaged, so it attempts to read, sees no data and gives up. I did inspect and clean the board, but often these things are very hidden, so some pointers would be helpful. Thanks in advance. :)
