Subject: Repair A600HD VS buy an A500Plus
So here's my conundrum
I have a non-functioning A600HD from my childhood.. Needs new PSU, replace HD (it does not sound healthy) and upon power on I'm getting nothing on screen, the disk does spin up, floppy does a seek, caps lock flashes on and off, but no life on screen... guessing a recap at minimum
I am also currently playing with an A500Plus (My neighbour is moving house and found it while sorting out) which I can 'make an offer' on.
Honestly I'm not that familiar with Amigas... I had mine when I was 11, it was my first home computer and have very fond memories of it... that initial 'wow' factor also has made me the massive computer nerd I am today, but I confess that when the Amiga was boxed up and replaced by the PC I didn't really look back until the nostalgia started kicking in a year or so ago.
So I have no idea what the sensible going rate is for the A500Plus... but I'm going to guess (based on the brief ebay search) that for similar or less I can likely make my A600HD live again... and so herein lies the problem.
Which is a better machine overall... The A600 is 'mine' so I hold a softspot in my heart for it. I also like that it's a more compact device... is it also a generally better device for upgrading / playing with?
What is a realistic price for the A500Plus (UK £) ? Seems in decent condition and all original, think he's got some games and manuals (and original box). Has had a horrible plastic protector over the keys all its life which has kept the yellow at bay.
Does anyone have any UK recommendations for where I can take the 600 to be looked at / fixed (ideally somewhere in the vicinity of Dorset) ?
From the description above does the A600 sound fairly repairable?
Subject: Can not get past the boot screen.
Been trying to get this to work on my new pi400. But only get a brief bootscreen then a blank screen. Well a sort of very dark green brown screen that wont alter. Followed as many of the instructions I could find and the readme file included with the img file as follows
- Succefully downloaded 'pimiga15Lite,img'.
- Used Raspberry Pi Imager, on my Win10 desktop, to write to 64Gb microSD
- Downloaded the Amiga Forever Essentials Google Play ROMs and copied the 'amiga-os-310-a1200.rom' to the KICK partician. Renamed it to 'kick31a1200.rom'.
- Transferred the microSSD to my Rraspberry pi 400 and turned on.
- Boot screen shows then screen goes to dark green-brown color.
- Also tried booting without the microSD in then after the boot screen pause set it in fully but same result.
- Also tried the various seetings in the config.txt file on the boot sector to force HDMI etc, but with same result.
I'm struggling now. The HDMI cable is plugged into the port nearest the power lead although I have tried the other HDMI port as well. The microSD card is a Kingston SDCE/64 GB High Endurance which I have used for other pi distros both before and after trying this one and works flawlessly.
I must be missing something because I cannot see anyone else having this issue but am stumped at the moment. Has anyone any idea what I am doing wrong or suggestions to try to fix the issue?
Subject: The start of my A500 toy - So far it blinks lights and displays numbers
submitted by /u/CaveNeanderthal
The humble start of a A500 toy which plugs on to the Zorro bus. I have the BeagleBone Black connected and running.. RAM controller is purring. next is the wiring for the Address and Data lines to the level converters+bufers. 7 segment display for debugging. The intention is a RAM upgrade, IDE disk emulated in BeagleBone and I hope to get an Ethernet interface on the A500. The BeagleBone has an awesome realtime programmable CPU that I am thinking of making it a process offload interface.
There already is a RaspberryPi of similar type, but my aims are to learn HDL and the Amiga is perfect for tinkering with

Subject: Monitor for A1200
Hi, any tips/recommendations when choosing a used LCD monitor for A1200?
I have a Commodore CRT monitor using composite but planning on getting a RGB2VGA adapter for a second LCD screen for Workbench use. Not big - under 20"

I had a previous post where the R408 resistor was burned, I didnt know how to post a new picture in the old post so I made a new one. After I changed the resistor, I have this screen now. Everything worke fine, its just all time a screen like this, like a shadow or something, also when I start a game, the "Dos" screen is also like this. I try a new Denise and a new Gary, always the same, I checked if every chip is correctly pushed in, yes it is. What could it be now?

Subject: Amiga emulation on console question
Hi all, i used to have an Amiga 500 back in the day and loved it. Somehow or another it got lost, broken or just given away over time, but now im getting the urge to play it again.
Due to ease and space I was thinking about getting an emulator console, specifically the [Super Console X Pro].
I'm totally new to this so i may be talking daft here and that's why I'm asking for your guys help.
I'm curious how these emulator consoles run and play Amiga games, specifically:
● How the keyboard is incorporated, do i need to get one separately?
● Same goes for the mouse.
● I remember many games needed a code wheel etc, how does that work? Is it like 'hacked' games back in the day? (I need my Shadow Fighter!!)
I've got a terrible feeling that I'd have 1000's of games but unable to get past the loading screen.
I'd just like to say thanks for taking the time to read my post and it would be grateful for any help.x.

Subject: Pimiga minimig pi400 etc etc
I hope I’m not the only one who’s still figuring out all the options that new hardware/software platforms offer. I’ve been reading and youtubing but I’m still a bit lost.
Im basically wondering if I should get into this and if so, how.
How does minimig relate to the whole pimiga thing, is it completely separate? Can someone with pretty basic tech skills set up a pi400 with pimiga? Or is there a better option in your opinion? And what setup gives the most authentic experience?
Bonus question, can I connect my old school amiga joystick with say an adapter?
