The problem is that I'm a fan. No, I don't have blades, I have specific, detailed interests. I enjoyed discussing things like Dresden Files novels and Terry Pratchett's DiscWorld, and Space Travel (especially Elon Musk and his companies) and robots - all with people who have more knowledge and are maybe smarter than I am. That sort of thing takes time to grow, and is very fragile during its early days. I do love to argue politics, but that's a whole different thing. The stuff I mentioned, and a lot more, is my real passion, and FaceBook has accumulated enough people to keep the discussions interesting and keep them coming back. That has only happened here with things that YOU are interested in, and only because you have fed the fires patiently. I could drop stuff in Dragon's Den or some room I created, and come back to find no comments because nobody had passed through who shared my interests with any passion. When I was younger, that didn't matter, but now that I've realized my mortality and am sort of waiting for the end.

And, wow, this really is a Citadel! The topic of our conversation has nothing to do with the stated topic of the room! 😂

So... yeah, drop comments about things into Dragon's Den. The Dave is a Dresden Files fan - I bet you could strike up conversation with him. I'll have to pick up another one. I finished the first one. What is the next one I should be looking for? 

I had Uncensored so fucked up... that every room is off topic - and I don't think I'm solely to blame - but I'm certainly bad for rambling on in rooms in stream of conscious posts that take rooms off topic. I'm certain that Ig frequently feels the same frustration with me that you did when I first showed up at DDBBS. I also have a unique capacity to unintentionally start flame wars. 

I say something I believe. Someone disagrees with me, and uses some sort of descriptive language that makes me go, "Ok... I see where we've drawn lines... this is me kicking dust over your line," and then it is on. 


Right now I'm alienating a bunch of atheists by telling them that as an agnostic secular Protestant - I think Atheism is a stupid bet, regardless of my religious beliefs - and that most Atheists are just people who are anti-Christian - either because Christians have hurt them or that they feel that God has abandoned them.... 

And on the other end, I think I've pissed off a Jewish broad by saying that Israel is inherently an apartheid system by the very nature of declaring itself a Jewish State. The statement means it favors Jews. Period. If it didn't, it would be a State that identifies with a *particular* religion. You've set up a two-class citizenship - the Jews, and everyone else.

That doctrine is called separate but equal, and I could get a million Jews to call that a bad thing in US History, while promoting it in Israel.

All the Citadels I remember had the problem of off-topic threads. We had the ability to create a new room, then move an off-topic post to it to continue such discussions. Not that we often did.

Atheists deserve to be alienated - at last the ones who are anti-theists, which is most of the vocal ones.

I support Israel, but I also agree with your assessment. My point is that America needs to respect other societies that have different internal rules, as long as they aren't actively trying to bring us down. I'm not an Imperialist. Russia and China and Iran are not our allies, while Israel most definitely is. How they treat non-Jews is their business. I think they do a good job in that area.

I agree with you completely about the Anti-theist Atheists. I've been trying to get across that they're every bit as annoying as Evangelical Christians or JWs... but they can't step outside to see themselves through the light normal people regard them in. 

They think they have a cause and purpose and they must share their salvation with the unenlightened and that those who aren't with them are against them. 

I agree absolutely with you on your summary of Israel. I think the problem is that I ran someone Jewish who took offense at me calling it an Apartheid system - because, "Apartheid" is intrinsically linked with a negative connotation. They've got a horse in the race. I don't. I'm pretty much neutral. 

I think the other nations of the world have a certain obligation to be aware and proactive about human rights abuses perpetrated by other nations. Every time we ignore that, the lasting legacy for ALL nations is a shit show. But we've also gotten to the point where getting *involved* in human rights abuses often results in a global shitshow - too. It sucks when a country is treating some of its citizens terribly - but - there is a fine balance between doing the just thing and simply poking a bear when it will result in increased misery for ALL of humanity. Those are simply difficult choices to make. 

China doesn't treat Muslims very good. Russia doesn't treat gays very good. I'm not sure that there is anything the rest of the world can meaningfully do about these things without making EVERYONE in the world suffer great consequences.
