Subject: Weird issues with and RGB mod on a consumer CRT
Hi there!
I would like to design a controller like the Brook fighting controller for a PC and Xbox. Some knows a reference design or a website where I could take it as guide.
Any advise or information will be a great help.

My father ordered me 2x 128 MB modules for Christmas when I said I only wanted one, so now I have two. Before I sell the other one, is there any benefit from having more RAM? I'm well aware that in a "normal" computer the more RAM you have, the better it is but since we're emulating systems that had tiny amounts of RAM to begin with, I'm not sure how much is beneficial to system since I haven't messed around with anything yet.

Subject: Is it normal for MiSTer to flicker during update_all?
![]() | I only started noticing this maybe a month ago and only on one of my two MiSTers. I figured it was because they were set to different resolutions (both HDMI but one for a tv and one for a smaller arcade cabinet). Now it’s happening on both. It’s no big deal really - it only seems to do it during the update.** I’m just wondering if it’s normal or if I changed a setting incorrectly. ** [link] [comments] |

Subject: What causes these red dots on black backgrounds?
I notice these colored dots in any area of solid black: https://imgur.com/a/fg2Y3Eo They're most prominent against solid black backgrounds, but appear in any black area. I only have NES & SNES cores set up, but both exhibit this problem.
They go away under some video filters, but I prefer the sharp look of nearest neighbor scaling, and they're especially prominent under that setting. It seems that the filters that more heavily "blur" the image tend to make them disappear completely while the sharper ones just reduce them.
Does anyone have any idea what the cause is? Thank you.

I’m curious what the state of the art is, or if anyone has come up with innovative solutions, to augment the amazing MiSTer play experience with box art, manuals, possibly even auto-launching games. I’m loving my MiSTer setup, but I feel like there is something to having the box/manual art. Would love to incorporate Nintendo Power in as well. Maybe a tablet with these PDFs loaded and organized by console / game? Launching into MiSTer automatically would be a great integration. Anyone done something clever like this?

I just did the update_all v2.0 initial conversion (initiated by the old script itself) and updated everything.
However, some cores seem to have a duplicate entry on it - sometimes with different dates, sometimes one with a date and the other with nothing of the sort.
Why are there duplicates and how do I fix this?

I just ordered a kit and want to bring my MiSTer with me to my local fighting game tournaments. Problem is everyone uses their own controllers. So is there a way to have it just plug and play without having to rebind controls every single time? For PC this problem is solved by either playing through Steam Big Picture or using hardware converters like Brook Wingman so any controller is just universally an Xinput controller.

Have frozen for 10 min now. Is this normal? Running update_all via putty from my pc. Can I interrupt the script without damaging anything?

I’m not going to pay a scalper but does anyone know of spare stock in the U.K. rather than waiting a year?

Hi, all! I have HDMI style SNAC(X) adapters, and am wondering if it would be possible to use a passive HDMI switch for each port.
The plan would be to create an all-in-one box that I can plug into the SNAC port on my MMS, and an off-the-shelf switch would greatly expedite this process.

![]() | Hello All, I am at my wits end! All of a sudden, my MiSTer started having graphical glitches: PVM is vga straight to component and Consumer is hdmi to component over converter. Before this, Consumer suddenly had a green tint, now there is a green bar that winds it's way. TV's are fine. Ini settings are good. I've tried reflashing, several times. ini alts. Sync on green. I'm at wits end!!!!!! Please, please send help before I go bald! Both were perfect just a few days ago. [link] [comments] |
Subject: Has anyone gotten i2s audio output over hdmi working on a mister?
Basically I am wondering if it’s possible to wire up an output like this: https://global.discourse-cdn.com/business4/uploads/psaudio/original/1X/84af4bef0d164c219ececc169152a068e31707de.png
So far I’ve only messed with premade FPGA systems (I have almost all the analogue systems lol).
I love them for the few cartridges I play, and for the eye candy on the shelf (the Super NT and Mega SG not so much, though I do think my ghostly super nt with an everdrive reshelled in white with no label is quite nice, eventually I’ll do the same with the mega SG). The NT Mini Noir tho is just plain sexy. Especially since I also got the famicom everdrive and reshelled it smoke again no label. (Yes I recognize I don’t NEED an everdrive with any of them, at least for basic gameplay, I do like the extra features they add though, plus I wanna play with restoring and reshelling and modding og consoles for fun).
But since I finally got my dock for my pocket, it has basically superseded all the other retro systems aside from cart time. This has led me to realize how much more convenient it would be to just keep my pocket as a portable and get a dedicated box that can “do the same thing”. Plus the mister has a beefier FPGA so more cores (I am admittedly a spendthrift… if someone ported mister to a monster FPGA like a Xilinx Alveo or an Intel Stratix or Agilex, especially with HBM cause lol (such upscaling), I would end up building one.
Anyway TL;DR:
I have a “very high end” stereo dac (PS Audio DirectStream) which just so happens to have a pair or HDMI-I2S inputs. It’s actually a fully FPGA based dac, and unlike most dacs it takes all pcm audio and converts it to upsampled DSD then renders everything in DSD (I don’t fully understand, but the gist is a DSD dac doesn’t need any complex delta sigma conversion, but rather it just directly runs the signal through a low pass filter then you add gain and you have sound).
The main point is, this dac will easily crush anything that could actually fit inside a normal mister and I love how it makes digital music and distortion and chip tunes sound. So rather than installing a crappy little dac inside and pumping analog on cheap rca when I have a fully balanced and extremely robust stereo setup just doesn’t make sense. From what I can gather, internally the mister sends audio to the dacs via i2s anyway. So I would just need to figure out how to route that outside (and possibly add a clock for it.
Before I embark down the rabbit hole, I figured I’d ask if anyone else has attempted anything similar?
I assume it must be possible since you can just use something like this to do similar with a raspberry pi:
Anyone got any ideas/knowledge/experience or even just excessive boredom and free time?
