Subject: Best Arcade Sticks and Keyboards

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

It's nearing that time where I can start setting up and playing on MiSTer I'm starting to think about controllers to get and I think I have most of it figured out but I'm also looking for good arcade sticks and I don't really know what to get or what would be a good arcade stick for MiSTer cores like arcade cores and Neo Geo. What would be a good all around arcade stick for MiSTer? What would be a good mouse and keyboard for computer cores as well? Thank you for your time

Subject: Video still in black and white

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I've been trying to display my MiSTer multisystem on my Sony KV-2964AS Trinitron and I followed the guide that /u/qda posted here: https://old.reddit.com/r/fpgagaming/comments/za0iuv/options_for_getting_svideo_composite_from_mister/ and I've watched a lot of youtube videos like Zez's videos and Lu's Retro Source and others on it and I feel like I have all of the necessary cables and equipment for it.

I have:

  • Antonio Villena adapter
  • Male to male S-Video cable
  • yellow RCA component cable
  • VGA to component cable
  • S-video to component adapter

I've been spending the last few weeks doing different configurations with other cables like with VGA to component etc. But now I feel like I have everything. I made sure to change the value in the MiSTer ini files and changed the component value from zero to one.

I have everything working and I have audio and everything is fine but it's in black and white and I know the old cores didn't support S-Video and required an update and with the new cores and you have to go in and manually enable the S-Video each time to have colour. Like in the Lu's Retro Source video here: https://youtu.be/DBy_XPmieKc?t=279

But the problem is, is that I can't seem to find this option anywhere in the menu. I have made sure I put the new cores onto my SD card and I made sure I'm selecting the correct cores that are supposed to allow S-Video they usually end with a "YC" in the filename. I double checked to make sure I wasn't running the old cores and I was in the new ones. But the issue is that I can't find any option in the f12 menu that shows me I can enable it or I'm missing it or I'm pressing the wrong key. Even when I load into the individual game roms themselves I still can't find it. I have an option that mentions video signal and can toggle from Y/C to RGBS/YBPR but it doesn't really make a difference. Here's a view of the menu: https://imgur.com/a/vUwCuHZ

I downloaded the new cores here: https://github.com/MikeS11/MiSTerFPGA_YC_Encoder/tree/main/YC%20Builds

Subject: Further closing the gap of input delay on my old school gaming experience

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am aware that most people are ok with USB input timings and I personally prefer this solution for everything, but I play some frame sensitive games that benefit from native hardware input timings such as beatmania. While I haven't invested in SNAC (or SNAX) yet, I've been really contemplating going the full mile and grabbing a SNAC for whatever is available. The only downside would be having to find controllers. For PlayStation peripherals I am goldy locks as that has been a console I've managed to keep around. One of two solutions for the rest of the consoles that I'd like to approach is using Brook Super Converters to take advantage of SNAC which enables me to use modern controllers that are in endless supply. The other solution would be to build a Brook Retro Board stick and focus on arcade-centric games (which is my target genre anyway). Would going through either of these routes make sense? I'm dead-set on grabbing a SNAC/X for the PSX core since I frequently play beatmania, but I would also like to know what you guys use with your SNAC for any core.

Been out of the loop for a while and my Google fu is failing. Has Redbook come to the PSX core yet? Was it ever a work in progress or is it just not possible? If so anyone know why? Thanks for any help!

Subject: VGA to SVideo/Composite Adapter Help

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I figured out that I need to plug in the converter I bought on Ultimate MiSTer directly to the MiSter. But this is challenging because of connections on the VGA cable getting in the way, and because I am worried about having that thing hanging off the back of the MiSTer. Is there a cable I can use instead? I tried using a VGA male to female cable, but it doesn't work.

Subject: Scuf Impact Controller and a few other questions.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Can I use my scuff impact controller with the MiSTer for all the various Console games that use that style of controller?

Where is the best place online to get the original Atari joysticks and paddles and other classic console controllers? Is it better to use the original ones with SNAC or just get USB?

And I just wanted to confirm that it is easy to reassign buttons and joysticks with any attached controller, like it is in MAME. I’ll also be using an X-Arcade and other arcade control panels along with other console controllers.

Thanks for any help!

Subject: 27 inch OLED monitor for an ultimate MiSTer arcade cabinet?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Wow - anyone seen this -

27'' UltraGear™ OLED Gaming Monitor with 240Hz Refresh Rate (lg.com)

I've been looking at CRT's to get the inky blackness and instant responsiveness that I crave, but wow - This seems to almost give you everything a CRT does - fantastic refresh rate, tiny response time, perfect blacks etc. Also it's 1440p, which is "perfect" for MiSTer.. you're not wasting money on a 4k.

But even at 1440p, it's just brutally expensive ;) - So what do you think? A perfect MiSTer monitor?

Subject: Help with PS1 saves

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Just redownloaded all my PS1 games as CHD’s to save space. Before I was using bin/cue. I’ve noticed that some of the games that I’ve had a game already saved won’t load the save, but it doesn’t happen for all of them. Like Final Fantasy VII loads the save just fine, but Crash Bandicoot doesn’t. I wasn’t in the middle of a game so no big deal but does the virtual memory card recognize the chd files as a different game or something? Will I have problems saving in the future?

Subject: RGB Mod: Where do I get the Sync signal?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all,

I've been reading a lot about making an RGB Mod for a Sony trinitron (BA-4 chassis), and already bought one. Now, the interesting part is: I can get RGB from the VGA port of the Mister, but I need Sync signal, and that's where my confusion is, do I need to pick it from the G cable, because it sends "Sync-on-Green" ? I haven't seen anyone connecting a Mister to an RGB modded consumer TV, that's why I ask.

thanks!

Getting rom missing error for some arcade cores

Just did an update_all to try Super Pang and I'm getting this error.

I also see Xain'd Sleena is there now in the Arcade cores and getting a similar error

Anyone else seeing this with the newly added arcade cores ?

Subject: Accidentally plugged in a HDD power supply to my MiSTer. USB hub is dead but MiSTer and IO board are still working. Did I do permanent damage?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I accidentally plugged a HDD power supply which I believe is 12v. Immediately smoke came out the bottom of the MiSTer case and I unplugged it. After plugging in the correct PSU everyone worked initially, however the LEDs on the USB hub were not lighting up. The next time I went to use it the USB hub was completely dead.

I now have an external micro USB hub I'm using and I played around with it for an hour or so and everything seems to work correctly, including the analog IO board as well as the 128MB RAM module (successfully loaded some larger Neo Geo games).

Is it possible I've avoided doing permanent damage to the DE-10 Nano?
