Subject: Cake Fighter not working on Neo Geo core.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

For those that don't know what Cake Fighter is: there's a debug game left in the code for Twinkle Star Sprites that has been extracted to run on its own.

For the life of me I can't seem to get it to work on my MiSTer. Once i load it the UniBios appears then just a black screen. I've tried the Gateau.neo that's in the orig thread and that version may have had issues running on anything other than an EU bios so I've applied the V1.01 patch to that *.neo and still the same result.

I know people have got it working on MiSTer, I just don't know what I'm missing or not doing.

Subject: Multisystem vs normal preconfigured?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I’ve been wanting to pick up a mister and saw the multisystem board and it seems pretty cool. But it isn’t available to purchase yet.

I’m just planning to use it HDMI with the ASUS ProArt16:10 monitor. Is there any reason to wait and go for the multi system versus the normal square preconfigure bundles you can buy online?

And is it worth trying to source the original controllers with snac for a lot of the older console games? Or just use them USB style like some newer reproduction controllers use?

Any help is appreciated.

Subject: Micro SD Card and Bluetooth Questions

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Please forgive the dumb questions:

Is it normal to have to resort to using tweezers to remove the micro sd card from the mister. I can feel the spring and click when inserting the card, but pressing it in to get it to release doesn't seem to work properly. Card seems to read fine and the mister boots. Just wondering if this is somewhat normal.

I bought the wifi bluetooth combo dongle from mister addons. It doesn't appear to have a button to press in order to initiate pairing controllers. What am I missing here?

Any help is appreciated.

Subject: Won't boot after 2.5 install

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Apologies for the long write-up, but I'm losing my mind here. I bought a MiSTer off a very nice colleague recently; it came with an 8GB SD card and a USB hub. I added an analog I/O board, 128MB of RAM and a new power adapter. The 8GB card that has an older version of MiSTer on it and it boots fine but no cores show up, just one called memtest which I assume is a utility. (Weirdly, the USB ports don't work at all.) The only version that I can see on the splash screen says ARM s/w ver. HPS190126... I can ssh into the device and pull logs if that helps.

Today I downloaded Mr Fusion v2.5 and wrote it to a new, 512GB SD card using balenaEtcher on my Mac. The process was successful, and I installed the 512GB card in the MiSTer. (I put it in the De10 card slot, not the I/O board slot.) I powered on the MiSTer and the installation process seemed to go fine. However, the MiSTer won't boot with the new version of the OS: I get a black screen (via HDMI out) and the red LED & yellow LEDs pulse "side to side", and the green LED doesn't go on at all.

If I power off the MiSTer and put the old 8GB card back in, it boots up fine to the old version. But I've tried multiple big SD cards (32GB, 128GB, 512GB) from multiple Macs and none of them work with the v2.5 software - the MiSTer just refuses to boot. I've even tried writing with Win32 Disk Imager from a Windows laptop.

I got curious and created a disk image of the original 8GB card (i.e. with the old software) using dd, wrote that to a 32GB card, and the MiSTer will boot that just fine.. but it's still the old version and USB still doesn't work.

What is going on here? I've tried removing the I/O board and RAM but it doesn't make a difference. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is. I'm petrified to try and write a new v2.5 image to the old 8GB card in case I never get this thing to boot ever again!

Subject: NES controllers, SNAC and Daemonbite.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have three NES controllers that neither works on Daemonbite or SNAC. Unfortunately, I have no TV to plug my old NES console in. I do not think that all three are broken, however. What can I do?

If I try to buy a NES controller, Where do I find one? What criteria do it need to fullfill to work.

Of course I have been using the NES core to test.

My SNES controller works on SNAC and it works great, by the way.

Subject: Recommendation for Controllers? (Currently 8bitDo BT/PS4 hardwired)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi there! Curious on any recommendations for controllers that if put them down and come back dont need to resync everytime. Wanted to run by my experience with y'all, hope find what I'm doing wrong and/or order parts needed for a better experience.

I have multiple 8bitdo sf30 pro pads that I'd like to use and a cheap BT adapter that was an addon to my academic order from Terasic. Whenever I turn on MiSTer (or if I walk away for a few minutes and controller goes to sleep) I have to hold down the OSD button, get 'No bluetooth available' turn controller on, hold sync button, sometimes get it sync'ed and then 'Deleting all pairings' etc etc and get reconnected. I have a much better experience with my saturn/genesis pads hooked up 2.4g but dont have the thumbsticks and stuff for menu's, pause, fast-forward or alternate configs.

I have a 8bitdo retro receiver (NES) but hookup MicroUSB to Mister OR my computer and cannot get 8bitdo to sync with that. I think maybe the receiver is bad... That being said, I'm just looking for a way to get a better controller experience and wondering if the above Bluetooth process is what we all have to go to or just better off getting 2.4g controllers/receivers with enough buttons can set it and forget it.

Any recommendations on 2.4G controllers or is something wrong with my BT config and parts I have that if were to do 'x' would remove frustration? Been paying attention to other posts and have tried reading researching as much as possible and sounds like maybe a bad BT adapter or "pre-config" but not sure.

Looking forward to any advice!

EDIT: MicroUSB not MicroSD

Subject: Looking for a metal case that'll work with the V 2.1 USB hub

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'd really like a metal case, but generally open to cases that aren protective and aren't 3D printed.

My ideal case would be metal and passively cooled (as in, use the case itself as a heak sink to avoid the need for a fan).

Subject: Can someone help me understand the PS1's vertical crop options?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Trying to figure this option out. I get that turning on Hblank and Vblank makes resolution transitions smoother, and this also acts as the 5x mode in other cores, but how would you know whether to use the 224/270 or the 216 one? Wouldn't you always use 216 if that creates a 5x scale in 1080p? Or am I misunderstanding the purpose of that option? In the example on the wiki, they set Final Fantasy VII to 270, but how do you know which one to use? (link for context:

Subject: PSX core video settings

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am a bit confused how this core handles the switches between 480i and 240p. It seems that when I apply a scanline filter, it is used during 480i time and kind of messes up the image. Is this correct? Or is there a way to only filter the 240p content?

Additionally, can someone explain the in-core video options? It's not clear to me exactly what they do.

Lastly, is there a way to 5x crop on this core? Or is it not implemented?

Subject: Favorite DIY Case?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Just got my Mister hooked up and while it works great, it's looking pretty naked right now, haha.

I have the Digital I/O Board and USB Hub from legacypixels along with the Nano itself sandwiched in between.

I'm pretty new to this world - are there any commonly recommended cases that can be easily 3d printed or laser cut or similar?

I'll probably eventually spring for a fancy aluminum case or similar but with all I've spent so far I'm a little turned off at spending even more on the case, plus $$ on duties, import, shipping to Canada (nothing is ever in Canada...).

Subject: What exactly was the SDRAM issue that meant CPS2 and other cores didn’t work right?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I haven’t kept on top of things and discovered that when the CPS2 cores officially came out, they would not work on my existing 128mb ram. It turns out I needed to replace it which so did and all is well, but can someone please give a brief overview of why and what is different about the compatible v2.9 modules?
