Subject: No sound when starting an Arcade Core

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all,

When I first start an Arcade Core, I get no sound. But then I press the start button and sound kicks in. This sucks, because I love watching and listening to the intros of these awesome games. Does anyone know why this is?

I'm using HDMI to my 4k tv

Other cores do not have this issue. Only the arcade ones

Edit: I figured it out. Dip switch options fixed it.

Subject: Blisterboard

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Just purchased a mister, has a mister 2.1 hub in it already. Wondering what people think of the blister hub. Redundant? Lag benefits worth it? I have all of my old systems laying around and I have the controllers for all of them... Does this enable me the ability to play with my original controllers? Or is that blis box only?

Subject: Anyone Know Where I Can Find Rom Packs For Each Core?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Does anyone know where I can find Rom Packs for each core? I'd rather download them all in one shot as opposed to downloading each rom one by one.

Subject: MiSTer Suddenly Died

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I was playing some CPS1 games after running the RetroDriven MAME script and getting all of them. I have an I/O board connected to a CRT and 128 MB SDRAM. It was working fine for hours, and then all of a sudden it just shut off. There are a few small blinking lights (red on audio port, blue on DE-10 Nano near USB, and green near ethernet) and the Noctua fan looks like it wants to start up, but can't. Does anyone know what happened? I can't find any threads about this problem.

Some additional information;

- Stock power supply- Small USB hub with an 8BitDo M30 over micro USB and a cheap USB keyboard- Mini-TOSLINK going to a sound bar- IO Board outputting 240p RGBS to a JVC TM-H1950CG CRT monitor over an Extron HD15 to BNC cable- Was playing Magic Sword Heroic Fantasy on CPS1 core- Had been running for several hours- HDMI cable was plugged in (I think) but the HDTV was turned off- I ran the update script and the RetroDriven MAME script before this

I can't imagine I fried it. Maybe the cheap, stock power supply died?

UPDATE: I replaced the power supply with a better one, and it works fine now. So it looks like the crappy power supply just shit the bed with the USB hub, IO board, etc... Upgrade your power supplies, folks.

Subject: Audio cutting out snes core?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey all just finished setting up mIster and it seems the audio may be cutting out in legend of zelda link to the past. Not sure if this is a normal thing or not but only part of the background music cuts out momentarily when things like bushes are picked up in the beginning of the game and that specific sound will fade back in. Is that normal for this game?

Subject: HDMI to SCART RGB convertor-Direct Video?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi,

with a direct video function on MiSTer its possible to output pure analog signal with just HDMI to VGA dongle. I need SCART RGB WITH audio for my TV, so will be quite hassle with other expensive VGA to SCART cable. I wondering, if this kind of cheap HDMI to SCART convertors, will allow me to skip a step and do the same job as well, without more latency?

Subject: Folder structure for roms (consoles)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

When I read MiSTer documentation from GitHub there is usually instruction to create folder (e.g. NES) on the root of the card, and put roms into it. However I'm thinking if all roms must be placed directly into these console based folders or can there be subfolders? I'm thinking if I can just put everdrivepacks inside these folders.

Subject: Is the MiSTer USB hub worth it or will a standard usb otg hub work well enough?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I am curious, about to pull the trigger on a usb hub for the MiSTer and am curious if there are benefits with the official board over just an otg hub. Tried googling but not really seeing much.

Subject: AO486 Core Loading Issues

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

At the moment my AO486 core only loads to a black screen. I'm using the "update_all" script. This worked a few months ago before I got my 128mb memory module and analog I/O board.

One thing I noticed is that the hardware area is grayed out in the settings, so I can't change things like Mhz. It's like the core is not loading, but I can still mess with some settings. I tried messing with the MiSTer scaling settings, but nothing has worked (issues with the scaler are in the core's github issues area). I have a few VHDs I've tried to load, but again, nothing happens.

Looking for any ideas as I'm not sure what else to do. My next step is to manually install the core, but I feel like the update_all version should work.

Subject: ESD concerns, is it a big deal?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey all, it's winter here in the frozen north. As such I can't seem to blink my eyes without a visible arc of static electricity. In the last two days alone, I've touched the brass standoffs and created a loud audible pop atleast 5 times. I try not to shuffle my feet and keep a large steel wrench near the tv. I touch the wrench before touching the Mister, but sometimes I forget & the static in my house is out of control. I just got it a few weeks ago & I'm afraid I'm going to destroy this thing... am I making too big a deal out of this? Any sage guidance would be appreciated.

Subject: 8bitdo USB adapter loses sync everytime after shutting down the controller or MiSTer.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Any ideas what to do? Everytime when I power off the controller (8bitdo SN30) or MiSTer I must resync adapter and controller. Same kind of adapter holds sync with other devices and also Retro-bit genesis controller works with MiSTer without losing sync. I'm using BliSTer board on my setup.

Subject: Is there an enclosed build with a good power switch available anywhere or is it still just boards and standoffs?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I’m not interested in the hardware build side of the project and would like an enclosed, ready to go piece of kit to play more with the software and various cores available? I’m not interested in 3D printing my own enclosure or having to fiddle around with a switch on a USB cable to power it on and off.

Is such a thing being sold anywhere or is it still more of a hardware DIY experience?

Subject: How do I get Tapper to work?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm getting "sound board interface error" when loading the core and white boxes where the sprites should be.

I ran the update script to get the latest cores, ran the getter scripts for hbmame and mame roms, and even tried manually getting a tapper rom for mame 0.218 as listed in the mra file although I can't find a tapper rom anywhere with the same md5sum. I did validate the CRCs of the files inside tapper.zip, but the overall md5 doesn't match. I'm am at a loss what rom it could possibly need to work.

Does it matter that I don't have an SDRAM board (It hasn't come in yet)? Anyone have tapper actually working?

Subject: using 2nd 8bitdo controller w/ snes core

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm attempting to use 2 identical 8bitdo SN30 (via USB currently, bluetooth appears to have same issue) with SNES core. After mapping both joysticks both controllers appear to work correctly in the main menu. After loading SNES and loading a game I'm able to use one controller and hitting start on the 2nd controller does show the overlay. However, the 2nd controller does not appear to do anything after the overlay. Interesting, after attempting to use the 2nd controller in a game when I go back to the main menu the 2nd controller no longer works.

Any idea how to resolve this?

I've enabled `no_merge`: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/blob/master/MiSTer.ini#L117-L118 as well as updated `u-boot.txt` per: https://www.misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=1192 FWIW this is on setup purchased from Misteraddons. I also remove `/config/maps` prior to mapping the joysticks, just in case that was causing trouble.
