Subject: Stepmania 3.9

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Has anyone tried installing this on Windows 98 via MiSTer and ran it successfully? I'm looking at possible ways to get Stepmania on my MiSTer in some shape or form. Any ideas or thoughts on this would be great!

Subject: Visual issues with using a Samsung 128GB USB stick.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've noticed for a while I've been having visual issues where HDMI doesn't work till a couple of reboots and the screen is slightly glitchy then settles. Also in the amiga emulator I've been losing sync when swapping video modes.

I've just pulled my Samsung 128 USB stick and the problem has gone. Not sure if this is a power load issue but my specs are.

128GB SDcard and 128GB USB stick

Mister USB hub, 5v Fan, Analogue Shield, 128MB, Wifi + BT dongles, Realtime clock and ADC. Also I have a 4amp Meanwell PSU a power splitter and power switch. Will check the resistance to the switch though once I find my DMM.

Anyone else had this issue ?

Subject: I have some remaining Noobie MiSTer questions after doing some research

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello and happy new year! I had a few questions after using my MiSTer for the first time this weekend. I've read and learned a lot about it this weekend but I had some questions that I really couldn't find much insight on.

First off, it's a prebuilt and came with a 8gb SD card and I only have 2gb of space left on the SD card. My games are stored on a 4tb HDD. After looking at all the updates and releases that come out regularly, it appears I'll be needing a larger SD card.

The console core releases installed on my MiSTer, that have been getting updated regularly (NES, SNES, MD etc) are core releases from July 2021 and my MiSTer version is V210829 and OS is V210831 so from August 2021.

With all that out of the way, here are my questions:

  1. Am I seriously out of date with my core releases being 6 months old and the MiSTer and OS versions being 4 months old? Would 2gb remaining on the SD card even be enough storage to run the update all script?
  2. If I did end up getting a new SD card, say 256gb, can I just run Mr. Fusion, flash the MiSTer imagine on the new SD card and then transfer the contents of my 8gb SD card to the new 256gb card, stick it in my MiSTer and I'm good to go?
  3. Does the MiSTer run everything off the SD card in terms of the cores, OS and MiSTer versions, etc. or does contents of the SD card actually change something on the MiSTer on a hardware level or I should say, internally somewhere on the MiSTer or is the SD card the heart and soul? ie. If I mess something up with the new 256gb SD card install, pop it in my MiSTer and some thing don't work or it's really messed up, can I just go back to using my 8gb SD card that came with it that is already set up or would popping that newly set up 256gb SD card change something in the actual MiSTer device? Probably a stupid question but I hope that made sense.

I'll probably have more questions as I spend more time learning about this thing, but these were my burning questions. I really appreciate any time that is taken in helping me learn more about this device. This community is so brilliant, it's a tad overwhelming haha. Thanks again! :)

Subject: Would you recommend Heatsink Glue? or tape/pad?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all,

I am buying a 20mm x 20mm x 10mm heatsink for the de-10 nano but it looks like it doesnt come with any paste or adhesive. Can you recommend me a brand? I am a bit hesitant to apply this glue that I found on ali express because what if that wrecks the hip? Should I use a thin pad between the heatsink and the chip or do I need something special or specific?

Subject: PSX Core Issue

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have the latest PSX unstable in my _Console folder. I have the 1001 bios renamed boot.rom in the PSX games folder where I have two games currently as bin and cue (twisted metal 2 and silent hill) which both booted prior a few weeks ago.

When I boot the core I get the Sony screen and then console Main Menu (with Memory Card, CD Player) but still nothing loads and CD is in the Main Menu screen in the top left.

Subject: Ordered a MiSTer Pre-configured Bundle

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

"Total Noob"

Ordered a couple weeks ago from from MisterAddons with a preconfigured 1TB micro SD card.

I was getting cold feet (thinking of cancelling my order) might be beyond my ability but he talked me off the edge saying it's not that hard.

It shipped yesterday.

I'm grateful for this group on reddit and no doubt I'll be searching posts for solutions every step of the way.

Subject: Is there a FAQ about the hardware needed ?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I want to jump to MisterFPGA but don't want to spend 475€ on a pre-build unit if not necessary.

As I see the basic DE10-Nano is about 190€.
a 128 MB needed if I'm not wrong for some cores like NEOGEO about 50€
And a usb hub...

what else do I need?

I see there are plenty of options:
https://misterfpga.co.uk/product-category/expansion-boards/#shop
https://ultimatemister.com/product-category/mister-fpga-addons-hardware/official-mister-addons/

What do the 475€ builds do include?

Thankyou

Subject: LCD effects missing after update?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

It seems the LCD effects that I used for GameBoy/GBA cores was removed in the last update. Is there any information on it returning or it’s compatibility with the new video effects format?

Subject: MisterAddons customer support?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Has anyone had experience with them? Any tips for working with them>

I just got my prebuilt system, and there's something wrong with the primary SD card slot such that I can't physically get a card into it because of an obstruction, and the device still won't boot when I put the card into the secondary slot. Not sure if it can only boot from the primary, or whatever is blocking the primary may be causing a short.

I replied to the order email yesterday and haven't heard back from them yet.

Subject: Retro-bit Legacy 16 Wireless USB

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I very recently bought one of the Retro-bit Legacy 16 2.4Ghz wireless controllers. I need a good wireless pad solution for my MiSTer setup, and wanted to free up my PlayStation controllers for their own consoles. I'm glad I only bought one to test, though, since it doesn't seem like this is going to work.

First thing I did was charge the controller and update the firmware on the USB receiver. When using these on my PC or on the MiSTer, I get horrendous input lag, missed inputs, and inputs held longer than I do. This happens whether I use D- or X-input mode, and whether I'm 15 feet away of 3 feet away.

The SNES adapter works perfectly, but I don't need wireless for that setup.

I haven't been able to find any help online, nor have I received a reply from Retro-bit tech support. Does anyone here have any ideas I could try? If I can't figure this out soon, I'll be returning this and looking again.

Subject: USB hub (sometimes) dies when plugging in HDMI cable.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi and welcome to myself as a new member of this community.

As the title says, my USB hub (sometimes) dies (equal to, doesn't seem to get enough power) when plugging (or plugged) in HDMI cable. A non-scientific feeling of mine think it is a power issue. The USB hub can also stop working all of a sudden if I mess with eg. MemTest as well.

Is there something I can do in the INI or somewhere, to get a more rubust power solution related to the HDMI port? Is there any specific (power hungry?) setting related to, let say.. HDMI picture och audio, I should look into?

Details about my setup can be found here: https://wordpress.bergq.se/mister-station/

Subject: I have three power inputs, but only 2 pluggies. >.<

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I once setup my little MiSTer box about six months to a year ago. I had it running just fine, put it in a drawer for a bit. Now I'm back. But for the life of me I can't remember which two power inputs I should be using. I have the two top boards, and the USB splitter on the bottom.

Help a dummy out. I feel pretty stupid right now.
