Subject: PreLoaded MiSTer?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

(sorry if this is not a question I should be asking going a head a delete if needed )

I know it might be "grey" area question, but is there anywhere I can just buy a 100% ready to go loaded with games and cores etc.? I really want to get into MiSTer but am SUPER bad at tech stuff/time wise as well!

Subject: OSD Rotate

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm fairly new to MiSTer, built one a few weeks ago mostly for the purpose of using it with my CRTs, so I'm running the analog I/O board with a VGA to SCART connection, which I swap between a RGB to Component converter going to my big consumer set, and a RGB BNC cable to a PVM I keep rotated for arcade stuff.

I have been looking for a way to rotate the OSD while using the rotated PVM, and ideally have it set with the alternate ini file to swap between a horizontal and vertical display. I found the OSD rotate setting in the ini file but when I set it to anything besides 0, the connection to my CRTs dies and goes to a blank screen. I have seen this before when I had a scanline effect set, which was only visible on the HDMI connection, and turning the scandoubler off returned the image to the CRT. Am I correct in assuming the OSD rotate setting doesn't apply to CRTs due to resolution constraints? I don't really have a problem tilting my head to read the OSD in tate, but the option to switch to a rotated OSD would be nice. IS there just something I'm missing?

Subject: Mister all in one

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I want to get a mister setup but now I'm seeing all these all in one systems being put out , or at least the info on them. Does anyone know if one is actually going to be released?

Subject: Best current setup guide ?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Just got my consolized mister finished last night. Need to install software tonight.

I was going to go by littlemadpixels update all script guide. Is this still the best/most current method?

Thanks

Subject: Some questions about the MiSTer FPGA that I couldn't find the answer to

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello, I'm considering getting a MiSTer FPGA myself and I had some questions. I'm thinking of using an VGA->Component cable to use YPbPr directly on a regular 15khz CRT TV.

My questions are:

  • Do cores output the original resolutions/refresh rates in this use case?
  • If a game changes resolution while it is running (such as Sonic 2 on Genesis or RPM Racing on SNES), does the MiSTer output resolution change automatically and seamlessly?
  • Can I limit a core's options for refresh rates (for example, can I limit Atari Lynx to 65hz or so, since my TV can't handle 75hz)?
  • How do Game Boy games look on the CRT, since the amount of lines it outputs (144) it lower than what most TVs accept (192)? Does it try to output the original resolution (sending the TV out of range) or does it do something else?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Subject: Phantom button presses using Genesis/MD SNAC

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Other than the "phantom" problem the (two original and identical 3-button MD) controllers work fine, each button does what it is supposed to do. They are "1650-50, Made in Malaysia". I used the 240p test suite to find out what's going on.
What happens is this:

I hold B+C and then press any diagonal on the d-pad. When I do, additionally to what I am pressing, buttons A and Start are shown as pressed as well. For one of the controllers holding B+C and pressing left also shows right as being pressed. With an USB controller none of this happens.

I also tried the Master System core with "SMS Test Suite (PD) v.032" which also has a controller test, including 3 and 6 button Mega Drive controllers. That seems to behave normally. Pressing any of the phantom combinations only shows the pressed buttons as being pressed.

Subject: Rare ask but anyone else using an GDM-FW900 CRT monitor with their MiSTer?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm trying to achieve a 16:10 resolution on my mister but none of the video settings parameters I found floating around the web are working with my awesome GDM-FW900 ( the HP version actually a7217a ).

Anyone here using said monitor and have it running on anything higher than 720p? Thanks!

Hey all, just wondering if there is a reliable news source when it comes to MiSTer. I run the Update All script once every few weeks or so so I get everything but I never really know what's been updated!

Subject: MiSTer, LCD and simple CRT curvature shaders

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi

I have just discovered MiSTer and looks amazing. Even if I know that the real retro experience is only achieved with a real CRT gaming monitor, I'd like to plug the MiSTer to a modern LCD monitor for many reasons (space, life span...)

Currelty I use Retroarch on a LCD and I'm happy with the CRT shaders, even the simpler raspberry pi ones with curvature (crt-pi-curvature...)

Is there any hope to get simple CRT curvature shaders in MiSTer, or simply the MiSTer hardware will never be able to cope with the simple shaders designed for raspeberry pi?

Cheers!

Subject: My first experience with the MisterFPGA

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I started to feel nostalgic about the games that I played as a kid when a coworker talked a group of us into going to Best Buy and waiting in line during our lunch hour to pick up a SNES mini. I quickly got into software emulation to play the games on the NES and SNES that I had enjoyed as a kid. I started getting into Sega games that I had missed out on too. Then I discovered MAME and got to play games that I had both loved and missed it on in the arcade! Probably the same story as everyone else in my age range now that I think of it.

So this year I learned about the Mister. After using various software emulators for years it sounded like an affordable way to see the benefits of FPGA based retro gaming. I bought the bare minimum parts that I needed piecemeal, finding the information in documentation and a few videos. Putting everything together and setting it up was very easy, more so than what I was used to using for retro gaming. And it just worked.

The first game that I loaded up was a NES game called Shatterhand. I had just beaten it in software emulation and it was a favorite from childhood. Even compared with a fast computer running a software emulator the MisterFPGA blows software emulation away! Even on my very non gaming optimized monitor the experience is a night and day difference!

This project is amazing. My thanks to everyone that has come together to make this happen over the years!
