Subject: Building Exact clones of retro consoles?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Is it possible to make an exact replica of e.g. a Sega Genesis system board with all of it's parts without having the blueprints?

Is it possible to "Scan" a chip e.g. the Yamaha YM2612 and recreate the chip in as easy a manner as a 3D printer would print a 3D model? I would of thought that 32 years worth of technological progress (since the genesis release) would enable such a thing but perhaps I'm wrong.

Subject: Q: Is there a default Core keyboard mapping resource? (a.k.a. Newbie Atari 2600 Core Help Request)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I was trying to get the Atari 2600 Core to work with an OEM 2600 joystick (via a USB adapter) and a standard USB keyboard. I can get the joystick to work just fine, but I've found that the main switches from the console (TV Type, Left/Right Difficulty, Game Select, & Game Reset) don't seem to be mapped by default to a standard keyboard.

If this is possible, is there a resource I could use to find the default keyboard mappings for any/all Cores so I won't have to ask every time I run into something like this? I didn't see anything helpful in the readme of this specific Core, so I'm hoping there might be a global solution elsewhere.

Subject: Just bought the necessary stuff for my first MiSTer build, have a question about video output

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey guys, just bought all the stuff I need for my MiSTer build, I almost cannot wait for everything to arrive but in the meantime I have a question about video outputs, I know I can connect the MiSTer via HDMI to modern tvs and also using the VGA output directly to a monitor or a TV using a VGA to component cable, which I also bought. But the question is, is it posible to connect the MiSTer to a CRT tv with S-video? If S-video is posible, is there any specific cable you guys could recommend?

Thanks!!

Subject: Have any of you gotten into non-gaming uses for Mister, i.e. Music/sampling etc?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Got mine a few weeks ago, mostly been into 16 bit gaming and a bit of GBA with it so far— but as I was recently playing with the C64 core and listening to dozens of classic SID tunes, it occurred to me that this would make for a fun sample fodder source into my Octatrack or Ableton.

I know very little about C64 — certainly not enough to program music like they did back in the day — But I’ve heard there’s a C64 soft synth that utilizes many if the SID chip’s functions with an easy to understand interface. Has anyone tried that w/ Mister or know if it works? I have Deflemask for iPad, which emulates Sega Genesis, SID, NES ,etc sound chips— but to my ears, Mister sounds better.

Subject: Update script keeps asking for ini file

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Update all keeps asking for ini file

I had to re-install the update all script. I removed the existing INI file, there wasn't one with it on the github so I removed it to make a clean install(it was upset with a few things and spitting out errors when doing the arcade sorting). It now asks for the INI file and is spitting out errors. It isn't making a new INI file however. I am rather puzzled.

As far as the error it literally gives an error saying it cannot find the INI file, that the arguments related to the INI file are false and it keeps going.
