1. You need to download an EXE/COM file from the torrent. Ones with SCR files are BS (unless if it's a pirated screensaver)
2. If the file is small enough, upload it to VirusTotal. If it's a big name, it will say File distributed by X. (pro tip: you can upload in bulk to VT by zipping it up, let it upload and scan, and go to the Relations tab)
3. Then what you can do is download Strings and extract to where the file was.
4. Then download UPX, and extract upx.exe next to Strings
5. Open a CMD in to that folder (you can click the address bar and type cmd)
6. Run these commands:
7. upx -d "<setup.exe>"
8. strings "<setup.exe" | findstr UPX
9. strings "<setup.exe>" | findstr http
10. strings "<setup.exe>" | findstr BTC
11. strings "<setup.exe>" | findstr AES
12. strings "<setup.exe>" | findstr "ProductName"
13. where <setup.exe> is the name of the file.
14. The first command will attempt to extract the binary if it's compressed with UPX. This can raise suspicion if it was successful, since many malware will pack itself.
15. The 2nd command will check if it is indeed packed with UPX. If it failed and there is a UPX! string, it's most likely malware (or at least, a corrupted download)
16. The 3rd command will check if it contains http. If you see any weird URL, it's likely either ransomware or a stealer. However you can open them in incognito, and if you see an error like Method not allowed, it's likely a C2 server.
17. The 4th command will check if it contains BTC, which is common across ransomware.
18. The 5th command will check if it contains AES, which is also common across ransomware. But this can also raise a bunch of false positives.
19. The 6th command will check if it contains the product name, where ProductName should be replaced with the actual product name.
20. The last resort is to install the program in a VM, while keeping Process Monitor open.

🍿 Popcorn Time, but way better

Although it's been up and running for over 10 years now, I'm shocked to say that in that time the UI has received very little attention or updating. So as a fan of the app as well as movies & TV in general, while looking for personal projects to build my portfolio I figured why not show my favorite streaming app some love and give it the much-needed visual overhaul it deserves.

During my redesign process, I also ended up reimagining the possibilities of what a streaming service could be. I though about all the features I'd want my dreaming streaming app to have and what would make it not only competitive with all the major streaming platforms out there, but overtake them entirely and leave them behind in the dust.

Redesigned Home page

I wanted this to be the entertainment app to end all entertainment apps. That's why beyond just redesigning the interface, I added some cool features like:

-Social connection through following different users as well as talent (cast & crew) in order to keep up with friends' recently watched content and new releases featuring favorite creators.

-User libraries with watch later, history, favorites, as well as user-generated playlists (called Collections)

-Find media you have in common with friends through mutual collections (no more taking forever to find something you both want to watch!)

-Queue management, a common feature in music apps, now included to make movie marathons and TV binge sessions that much easier.

-Fine-grained filter & sort controls (including and/or logic) to make finding what to watch as easy as possible

The goal with this project is to eventually be able to incorporate these designs and features into the actual app. I'm learning design & development in parallel so it'll probably be a while before I take a crack at the real thing haha. Obviously the social features would be hard to actually implement, its a piracy app after all but guy can dream! So I was looking for a textbook and found it on archive.org and eventually came across this guide on how to download and unlock them. The two textbooks I want are 1-hour borrows specifically. This post is 2 years old and I am on a MacBook which can be more "complicated". I believe I followed all the steps and then right at the end when I open the files from adobe onto calibre, they download and give me back full blank white pdfs on every page.

Has anyone done this trick in recent times? Should I try downloading older versions of the two required softwares? Or is there a better trick to get the files? Or if someone wants to do it for me lol. I just don't want to spend $100 on a textbook or $60 on an ebook.

I am unemployed and struggle with a severe mental disorder. I used someone's Netflix account to watch movies, but with the crackdown on password sharing, I won't be able to afford my own account.

My country (which I prefer not to name) doesn't have any laws against digital piracy, or none that I can find online. I checked on the world map on whether it's legal or illegal, and it's greyed out (so undefined?)
