Subject: Would you do this?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

You're a leading contributor to a specific corner of online piracy. You're met with a HUGE opportunity: The company that you've been working against for years offers you a job to turn "legit" in exchange for a lot of money and an agreement to never press charges for past work. You're probably the most qualified person to increase their security. All they want you to do is sabotage a specific project that is expected to attract tons of people to piracy. This will shake the trust and cohesion of the digital piracy community.

Would you do it?

Honor among thieves? How much money would it take to get you to turn narc? Are you here to fight corporate greed or are you here because you just love money too much to pay for shit?

I'm not implying this will happen to anyone in our community, I'm just wondering what y'all would do if you were in this situation.

Subject: Where did I go wrong?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I just need some help to understand what I did wrong (or am doing wrong).

tl;dr FitGirl Sims 4 on my computer. Play with VPN, and the ISP still is sending warning emails.

Some time last year, I used the resources on this sub to get Sims 4 by FitGirl on my computer (located in the US). I used Utorrent to download the file. I know I used a VPN at least the first time, but I can't remember if I used it the second time I downloaded it to my computer (basically I didn't know what I was doing). At the time, I did not have any issues and didn't hear anything from the ISP.

A few months ago, my husband asked me to get Sims 4 on his computer too, and I followed the same procedure. I know I definitely forgot to use a VPN that time. Since then, we have received many notes from the Internet company telling us to stop with the pirating.

We've probably received about 15 warnings, all for Sims 4. They suspended our internet, and my husband got freaked out. (I lifted the internet quarantine quickly, and we got a VPN again). Since playing with the VPN, we have still gotten a couple warnings.

From everything I've read on here, I was with the understanding that a VPN would solve this problem. (If it means anything, we put the VPN somewhere in the US or Canada.) From what I can tell, the IP address listed on the ISP warnings seem to be my computer.

I'll add where I think I went wrong in the past to get these warnings: Not using a VPN thoroughly for game play. Connecting to the Gallery without a VPN on. Using the Sims 4 Updater (sorry, I can't remember who made it (Anadius?)) without a VPN. I've never changed my DNS.

I'll note that we've been using a VPN strictly over the last month, but we still got a warning.

Can you guys help me understand what I'm doing wrong, how I can avoid getting these notes from the ISP, and what I should do to solve this problem now so I can still play Sims? My husband says he has thrown in the towel for everything Sims, but I know he'd actually really like to play it still.

I'll add too that I have read through the FAQs including the one about the ISP, but I'm still confused about what I'm not doing right. Apologies for any weird verbiage. The auto-mod is strict.

Thank you for the assistance!

Hello, I know that it's against rules to ask for those things but NFS ProStreet is pretty much considered abandoned software.

I can easily find version 1.1 but I'm having troubles finding 1.0

Subject: Guide : How to tell if a torrent is a malware ?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

ever wasted 40gb of data over garbage ? i did, embarrassingly many times, and wrote this long ago and said why not share it ?

basically these torrents are corrupt garbage to install malware (crypto mining bots, keyloggers, trending amplifiers, ads malware...) but how can you tell ?

- first off, even if some torrent is giga-seeded, its doesn't mean its not malware. why? cuz most people don't know how to remove a torrent from their downloader. also the malware producers overseed their torrents using some techniques. (for eg https://thepiratebay.gg i found on a post in this subreddit with 100+ upvotes, top 10 torrents of "fl studio" have 500 - 8k" seeds and are ALL Malware with the same structure)

- if you got the torrenting page (pirate bay proxy for example) from a legit site (such as YouTube/google/github... its super likely its malware) (in contrast to other less "supervised" sites such as fb_private_pages/reddit/twitter/discord servers/password protected forums..) (as of 2023)

- You could do "properties" on the setup.exe and check the vendor u will find off-topic things such as "UFEI recovery tool" when u fkn installed gta5.

- rule of thumb: fake files are usually called sth like "data.dat", you could open these files in Notepad++ and u can tell by eyes if a "consequence" is repeated, then yep its garbage (they just copy paste binary data many times till it reaches the size of the game)

- also a general thing to do is to prioritize the "readme.txt"/"how to install.txt"/etc.. (get it to download first) and check it, you can easily tell if its a malware. if you are not sure, (google its content), you will either find exact content in multiple torrents (thus its fake) or you will find people posted something like "why <torrent\_name> doesn't work ?" on online forums.

- when u add the .magnet and see the files, compare them to the vendor's files. for e.g an installation of photosh0p won't contain "AdobePSInstall.exe" alone on its own in a torrent. if it does then it's 100% a malware. (and ofc obvious things like a movie won't be a .exe) (or a GTA5 install wont be 10gb only)

--> PS : Also ofc, dont have to download the entire game/software to tell this. just download a chunk/part and look at it.

- try to use "known" crack sites. (never use google) like 1337x.to .. and Get stuff from release groups only and you will be fine. (such as fitgirl-repacks.site ) and be careful of the "spinoffs" that ship malware. google would recommend fitgirls-repack.com for eg which is a malware. google search would rather malware your device than give a legit torrenting website...

- careful also some good TBP proxies for eg will work until they wont, because a malware firm will buy the domain and ship their crypto bot torrents instead.

- more rule of thumbs : if it has anything password protected its malware, if its Russian it will work (lol), if it has abnormally high seeds its malware...

if there's more idk of, post it here guys.

Subject: Lightweight program to block an app from internet access?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I need to block an app (PS.exe) from accessing the internet in Windows 10.

I looked at various firewalls, but I don't want a program that makes all internet traffic go through it, if you understand what I mean. Because with high internet speeds and many torrents running at the same time, a firewall program (like Netlimiter or TinyWall) might throttle the internet speed.

Technically, is there any other way of blocking PS.exe from going online?

PS: Windows Firewall is disabled and needs to stay that way.
