Funny you should mention 4th of July and racism together.

My new neighbor brought a lot of fun to the neighborhood in awesome illegal fireworks and the people on the other side of him seemed to get fed up with the loud noises awfully fast. They got into it and you could immediately tell that the cranky neighbor had an unfortunate level of Stars & Bars in his heart. Cranky neighbor called the cops on him and us. Not sure why they added us, must be because I didn't back up his bullshit. Luckily on the actual 4th, we were at a large party across town when the cops arrived, otherwise fighting the $1000 fine would be more difficult.

Glad to see you getting this back off the ground - and I'm not surprised that TheDave excelled in the role. I can see him being a great ambassador for a game like this.

Sales at the first event were just enough to get us to the next event, but now we have inventory in hand for 2-4 more events.

TheDave absolutely nailed the role of Convention Master, and he'll do an even better job once he has all the tools he needs. Apparently flying a man a thousand miles to a hotel which may or may not let him sleep there can be anxiety-provoking. Aren't humans fascinating?

Anyway, the next event should deliver enough revenue to position us for a good Q4.

Yes, Japanese: The Game is available at JapaneseTheGame.com currently with print-on-demand fulfillment, which takes about three weeks. But we're going to switch to fulfillment from existing inventory once I ship the decks to my guy in Phoenix.

You're more than welcome to order now or later. The benefit to ordering now is that you can buy just one or two Expansions if you want. When you order from existing inventory the Expansions come in a bundle of five.

Got fired last friday.  Listed reason was "It's just not working out".  No shit, it takes me all fucking day to use your archaic-ass system that could be automated entirely by a code bootcamp dropout in like 3 month but you insist on this 20-year-old-looking Visual Basic reject that crashes all the time and is slower than your mom going to the gym.

Anyway I had a new job less than 4 hours later as the full-time convention master for Japanese the Game, but I'm nervous because I don't see how it's cost effective to hire me and the people pulling the strings this time don't know what they're doing and aren't listening to me when I tell them things.  It really feels like my last job all over again, but fuck it, I'm gonna take the money while there's money to take.  I think I'm gonna keep applying for high-powered jobs that I probably qualify for and see if I can make over 100k somewhere.

Job hunts suck. All of my positions have been because of insider connections, other than "The Byte Brokers" used computer store. That one I just picked up from an ad. Other than that - it has always been an outside relationship that got me the job. 

And frankly - I end up hating every job eventually, anyhow. It is hardly ever the work - it is the people I have to work with. 

But - I've seen the data for how many positions people apply for before they get a job - and it is ridiculous - it is like dating - you've got to put yourself out there to EVERYONE - even the ones that seem obviously disinterested - because you're playing an odds game. 

Or you can start your own business. I'm thinking about opening a "used" retro computer store and just getting OLD shit and reselling it.

The BBS went down in a Haboob shortly after I left - I do not have it enabled for remote management - so it was down for most of two weeks, evidently. Whoops. 


It is back up now. 

Looks like I got hit by a pretty massive surge, too. My Vampire V4 Compact Flash is not detected and my 48" curved LCD and graphic workstation aren't working quite right. 

I turned off all the surge suppressors, but I didn't UNPLUG them from the wall - and I remember thinking, "I haven't had a single power outage the entire time I've lived here..." 


Of course, Murphy was in I.T.

That is awesome. I'm going to make you a room here, that is a library room (you can upload and download files) and give you admin rights to that room. You can make that a support room or a distribution room or whatever else you want in relation to the game or to promotions, press releases, anything else you might want to publish for it outside of the sales channel. Feel free to make this an official, semi-official, or informal forum/resource hub for the game and your customers. 

And I'll be using that coupon shortly. :) The card looks *awesome*. It is pretty cool to know someone producing an actual product in the gaming market. 

The V4 seems to have found the CF card again, the 48" gaming CRT seems to be working ok... whatever Gremlins were here from two weeks of disuse and a significant storm related surge seem to have worked themselves out. 

Bonus, I tested negative for Covid today for the first time in about 8 days. 

So glad you are back up, I was afraid that Firefox and Google finally made going to an insecure website impossible in a way I couldn't fix. I figured I would try one more time before going to a VM with older browsers. 

Also glad to see Japanese: The Game back on track. I don't think I had ever seen Glimmer's card until now.

I actually came on to see if I could find the old thread about Russia attacking Ukraine. It has warmed this old raised-to-be-a-cold-warrior's heard to see Russia exposed as a paper tiger and to see Ukraine kicking them in the nuts. I never would have guessed that corruption had eaten so far into their weapons stores and lack of proper training and procedures had taken them down so low. Obviously, it is a complex situation and lots of bad with that good... but slava ukraini nonetheless.

I should really make it so I can tunnel in and administer from outside - but, on the other hand - it adds an extra layer of strong security that the management console is completely inaccessible from the public network. 

If Firefox and Chrome ever really get to the point where they won't allow you to browse a self-signed certificate from the public network - I'll probably bite the bullet and buy a signed cert. But I'd like to do everything possible to avoid adding that layer of complication to the management of this site. 

Certs make websites highly unavailable. 

I thought that was Glimmer - but didn't want to get it wrong. :D

I just turned 40! My father Gammlan and my mother who I don't think ever had a BBS name came to visit. He made his mother's incredible cole slaw and my mother made fried fish caught a few hours earlier. Halibut for me and cod for the rest of the family. They fried beignets and we stuffed them with dove chocolate and strawberries until the chocolate melted. Then we rubbed them in salted butter and powdered sugar. Salted butter and chocolate are incredible together.

For my birthday I got the movie HELP! and we had an amazing time watching it together: Mom, Dad, the wife, our six kids, and I. What a champion of days it was.

Thanks for the encouraging words about the game! We're getting an order every other day on the website and we haven't even told the world it's on the market. I think it's going to be a pretty big deal.

I can see how salted butter and chocolate would be very well suited to one another. I am NOT a fan of caramel. But salted butterfat and chocolate, sounds almost as good as chocolate and peanut butter. 

I haven't gotten around to picking up my copy yet - very busy. Went to my orthopedic surgeon today. Dentist tomorrow, my dog has a cyst that is causing him all kinds of problems. We need to get that removed, but he has a bad liver, so we need to get a sonogram of his liver to figure out if he can handle the anesthesia to put him under to remove the cysts... Then... there was the trip... a month... my Nephew just went back to Prague Monday. He texted me tonight around 5 PM - just arrived back home. 

There was also Covid and my father-in-law's 50th reunion, anniversary, and a birthday all in Bakersfield. 

It has been a crazy 30 days.

So, I forgot to turn the NAS back on when I brought the Sanitarium back up after the downtime. 

First backup in two weeks, although, there wasn't much activity here to be backed up anyhow, so it wouldn't have been any great loss. 

Amazing how well it all works when I just remember to turn it on. 

Oof. Oh well.
