Well... some traffic, in various rooms. This is a good start. If we keep this up, we might end up building a community and having a real BBS.
Welcome aboard.
You don't seem the type to step in, though. On Facebook you don't block people you disagree with, you tag them in the convo, lol.
Nice to have you with us, Brian.
Even if we may not ever mention it again. j/k
I try. The thing is, on Facebook, we're all equal.
Here... I am God. :D
Which means getting it wrong here is way worse... and users know that and it is a way to cause them to disappear.
The web based client seems erratic in resolving at best. The HTTPS:
resolution, you're going to get a security error, because it is a
self-signed cert. It is a good cert, and if you install it in your
certificate authority it'll stop throwing up those errors... but I'm
not paying to have a signed cert. If you go into advanced and accept
the cert, it'll work right and you'll be getting a secure HTTPS:/SSL
connection even though your browser will say it is Not secure.
But really, you should be using Telnet. I just put this up figuring
it would make the website accessible to the widest range of people.
You could try one of the free/open SSL CAs like letsencrypt.org. I personally dig the telnet interface for the traditional old school feel!
The thing is I'm using forwards and cname aliases to get you from wallofhate.com to tsbbs.spdns.org and the machine hostname is something else... so even if I had a signed cert - I think the changes of me getting it installed and working right are marginal at best. :)
I agree, oldschool Telnet feels best. But the web actually works well for me... so the people who are having problems - I'm not sure what the deal is.
This takes me back to the BBS days, rooms, doors, etc. I used to run a C-NET with my cousin back in the day, nothing notorious or anything, but I spent lots of time autodialing local boards and eventually found out about "fone cards" and that was a game changer. That was THE way to get the new warez for the C-64 before anyone else. You'd be the ppular guy at any copy party!
It is on a Pi.
I ran a CNet C-64 BBS for a while, and was involved in the Warez scene... but I ended up getting into Citadel - which was like the earliest version of Usenet and later Facebook and other forum based discussion oriented online services. I've ran Citadel ever since. It is more natural for conversations. C-64 BBSes were really designed to transfer files and play door games.
Subject: Gigabit cellular!
The real-world Verizon 5G test on a Galaxy S10 registered over 1Gbps. This is marvelous. There will be little cellular devices relaying signals like mad on sidenets within 10 years, is my prediction.
It's so badass that this BBS in on a Pi! Way to go, PD.

I have been locked out of my account on Facebook, in a way I can't dispute, but that still prevents me from logging in - which suits the people in power so well. Yet, here I am, on my own little chunk of the net, still preserving the democratization of the Internet. Fuck facebook. All hail the sidenet! If you want to experience the bullshit vomit of opinion and attitude that spews from my fingers - this may be one of the last places you can experience it. I think that when they make it this inconvenient, less people will here me. Remember to tell everyone you know to come visit. This won't be the first battle I've picked that I can't possibly win. I've been doing it ever since I discovered Citadelphia.

Soon.
Reading this through the fog of sobriety this morning, I am struck by how much Tyler Durden I was channeling last night when I wrote that little bit of prose.

Nope, making an image an attachment wrecks it. You can't view it and
can't download it - it becomes corrupted.
I have no idea why.

I am PD's furious liver.
It is a trooper. :)

If I could get my backup from 5.25" floppies restored - I'd have at least 20mb of 300x200 4096 color Amiga IFF porn to put into a room here! Top quality stuff scanned in with a Newtek Digitek scanner!
