On the Left side bar... select Advanced, and one of the options is CREATE room.
I am assuming you're in on the web interface and not the text client?
Nope, making an image an attachment wrecks it. You can't view it and can't download it - it becomes corrupted.
I have no idea why.
But I think you can probably upload an image to a directory room, then view that image, then copy and paste the URL from that image into a regular image here, to put inline graphics in your messages.
Which is a stupid work-around that doesn't make sense.
I guess not. Back to the drawing board.
It is strange to me that I can link to an image hosted externally and it will display correctly. I can upload a picture to a file directory and then view it OK... but if I insert the image as a link into a message, it doesn't work.
Figured that out. The link I used was absolute (the internal address of the BBS, which won't work for external users) and behind a password.
I think for an embedded image, the hosted image would need to be wide open to the world and an external URL.
Like this.
So then, will the FQDN URL work? It seems like it won't - even though anyone logged in inherently has permission to view the file.
So, up at the top of your screen, there are some buttons, and one has a little pencil on it, and it says, "enter message".
That is how a BBS works. You hit that, and then you type in some things you want to say. I don't know, whatever it is that is on your mind. Of course, with a Citadel, there are individual rooms designed for what is on your mind... so first you click on the Rooms folder over on the left side bar... and select a room that fits what you want to say... then you go to that room, and you click on the "enter message" icon...
Then you type in your message, like this one.
Then, up at the top, it will change to "Post message". You click that, and your message will appear to everyone else who comes to the BBS... and then they can reply... and then, there is a conversation... and if you get enough of those going on at one time, the BBS is a success.
If no one posts messages though... it is kind of like a Jr. High dance where all the guys are sitting at one side of the room and all the girls are sitting at the other...
ParanoidDelusions, are you talking to yourself or has someone blocked me already?
Well, this is the Sanitarium, so you would expect to find the guy in charge in the lobby mumbling to himself, wouldn't you?
Oh...
You fucking...
... people.
Post some shit. I see you log in. I give you starters. Y'all are pissin' me off.
And I'm prepared to ignore this place until it takes off. But if that is what happens, fuck all'y'all I was counting on.
Nomad vegabond call me what you will...
This BBS will become a study in the random posts I make after a lot of vodka.
And I'm OK with that. I ask no one.
This format reminds me of Fark.com so much that I just assume they used a Citadel port for the web way back 15 years ago. I loved that site until the owner decided to run for office and had to clean it up. They made a rule against harassing women. PRACTICALLY THE WHOLE SITE IS HARASSMENT. So people kept harassing the men, and the men who could take it stayed but most of them were pansies and the whole site got taken over by queers. That was weird. I learned a lot about what queer meant in 2006, but that's sooo different from the same concept in 2019. Once you cut the cultural anchor chain you can just drift forever.

~80% of my friends on Facebook have ideals and cultural norms that are different from mine. ~80% of those overreact when I question them, so I don't anymore. Fuck that so much. I can remember being a kid with a fragile worldview. But since my prefrontal cortex was fully formed I've been fine standing up for my ideology while accepting fair criticism. And it's evolved and improved. I guess I'm a little battle-hardened. Still a Christian and stronger in my faith because of arguments with both stupid and smart atheists. I left conservatism six years ago (after being jaded about it since 2004) because what attracted to me to it was egalitarianism, which comes across better in anarchy. So I'm a gradualist anarchist now, and I'm basically of the opinion that technology will "save us" with developments that outmode the State. Bitcoin is up to $8100 again because Whole Foods accepts it now, among other things. Once federal currency isn't required just to live your life, they won't be able to rob little old ladies' savings accounts for 3% per year. That's one of a hundred examples of tech making the state irrelevant and/or less obtrusive. I really hate the overclass, which Facebook has joined, and that's part of why I'm here.
Yay, I got to say a bunch of shit I couldn't possibly say on Facebook. Whee! I'll be back to do more of this since the judgmental people in my life can't ruin my fun here. That's all they do, by the way. I don't mind being told I'm wrong. I don't mind if someone doesn't like my ideas. But the women in my life overreact to... maybe everything. I'm not generalizing, but for my n=1 and my Dunbar# of acquaintances, the women really just love to shut the jollies down. Pooh to that.
My lesson from the last time I ran a Citadel-UX BBS is that if users have opinions I disagree with - I have to remove myself from the conversation and be the site owner, not a participant/user.
If you guys see me failing to do that - let me know. Check me. I'm not sure how to manage that - because my opinion and my presence is what gives this BBS its unique character (as with any sysop and his BBS)... but I also have enough power to make a debate unfair, here... so... that is a challenge.
