Any good PRON links out there?
Subject: Re: Any good PRON links?
Well... I have some... but I don't know if I should share them... because they all star...
YOUR MOM!
Oh... we're back, baby... :D
Create rooms. Post messages, build content. That is what will make this place succeed. If it turns into a ghost town, it'll be a ghost town. That is possible, I'm ready for it... but it would be better if it had a lot of content, a lot of the time.
And that relies on you.
The web based client seems erratic in resolving at best. The HTTPS: resolution, you're going to get a security error, because it is a self-signed cert. It is a good cert, and if you install it in your certificate authority it'll stop throwing up those errors... but I'm not paying to have a signed cert. If you go into advanced and accept the cert, it'll work right and you'll be getting a secure HTTPS:/SSL connection even though your browser will say it is Not secure.
But really, you should be using Telnet. I just put this up figuring it would make the website accessible to the widest range of people.
For anyone new to the idea of Citadel BBSes... or to people used to the text version who are trying the web interface out for the first time..
The basic concept is that there are individual rooms that are related to the topics. You read the messages in the room you are in, then post your response. The small bar at the top of the screen has buttons for
ungoto
read new messages
Read All Messages
Enter a Message
Skip this room
and
Goto next room
The basic workflow is to log in, read the lobby, "Enter a Message" if you want to reply, then click "Goto Next Room" up at the bar on top of the view window. That will take you to the next room with unread messages, and you can Read New messages in that room. Wash rinse and repeat until there are no more rooms with new messages, which should put you back at the lobby. Then log out.
Do this several times a day and you'll have good fortune.
It fucking irritates me that Google wants to search for "website" every time I try to do a search for "WebCit," and that "Citadel" returns all kinds of unrelated results.
This place needs door games...

While it supports floors - it does not support doors as far as I can tell - and I think the guy who codes it... first off, he isn't doing much with it at all anymore... and second off - I think he has decided I am a luser because he didn't like the n00b questions I was asking when I was trying to figure out how to get this poorly documented fucking thing up and running.
But his BBS is uncensored.citadel.org - you could hop over there and suggest a feature enhancement. Are there BBS doors that have been ported over for Linux? I'd totally run one if it were possible.
Oddly enough - I could *probably* just run RetroPie and a DosBOX and run an actual Cit86 that was Telnet capable... which would be weird... and awesome.
That is what I love about 8 bit porn... I keep getting older, and it keeps looking better! :D That ASCII animated ass looks WAY better when I take off my glasses. Heh.
So... I'm using my VPN to fool my network that I am coming in from the outside - and the strange thing is that I can't resolve to the SSL/HTTPS alias I set up (secure.wallofhate.com) this way... but from the office, I was able to resolve that forward fine to the HTTPS connection.
Are the rest of you using the HTTPS connection or the HTTP connection (or the Telnet connection?)
Once I get it stabilized, I plan on using the text client exclusively. The web client is just to make the experience more accessible to people who never experienced real Citadel BBSing.
Any of you Linux fans? I'd like to make it so that when someone connects over SSH instead of taking them to the Linux Shell - it takes them to the Citadel client instead.
This is easy to do with Telnet.
Here are the instructions for that:
Bypassing the "login:" prompt
If you normally log in to your host system using some method other than telnet (such as ssh), you might want the telnet service to go straight into Citadel, instead of displaying the “login:” prompt first. You can do this by having telnetd start citadel directly instead of ”/bin/login”. The “setup” program will offer to configure this automatically for you if it sees a configuration it understands. If you would prefer to configure it manually, all you need to do is make a simple change to your “inetd” or “xinetd” configuration. Here are some configuration examples.
An example for “inetd” (put the following line in ”/etc/inetd.conf”, replacing any existing telnet configuration line already there):
telnet stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.telnetd -L /usr/local/citadel/citadel
An example for “xinetd” (if you have a file called ”/etc/xinetd.d/telnet” then simply replace that file with this one):
service telnet { flags = REUSE socket_type = stream wait = no user = root server = /usr/sbin/in.telnetd server_args = -L /usr/local/citadel/citadel log_on_failure += USERID disable = no }
Please make sure you know what you're doing before you install this! If you are going to put Citadel somewhere other than ”/usr/local/citadel” then change the directory name accordingly. If you know of any other local peculiarities which need to be observed, edit the above configuration accordingly as well. And, of course, if you're working remotely, make sure you can successfully log in using SSH before you start making changes to telnet, because if you accidentally break telnet and don't have SSH running, you'll have effectively locked yourself out of your system until you can get physical access to the console.
But I'd like to reverse that. I'd rather have you guys SSH in and hit the BBS automatically, and I can locally access the box via Telnet to do administrative roles.
My network security expert is concerned about Telnet passing passwords in clear text... although - they're JUST passwords to the BBS - not passwords to the system.

I want to know why JinGenRum and I have been unable to get inline images to work - they just show up as blank boxes - and you upload what MUST be an animated GIF, right, and it works?
Did it just fix itself and images are working, or does it only accept ASCII porn, or what?
Did you post the image, or is that ASCII ass art a link to a GIF hosted somewhere else?
