I recently beat the single player mode for Smash Bros in the Switch, 3 times in a row.  It was fun and now I'm free of its grip, though I do check in daily for upgrading things in the gym.

I'm comfortable being poor because I'm used to it, but doubling my income would let me escalate my life improvements and help cambodians, so I'm trying to overcome my executive dysfunction long enough to teach myself more coding skills and refresh the ones I haven't practiced for a couple years.  It might be a good thing to enroll myself in some online school.  I dunno.

My roommate has never played Portal, and says it sounds cool but isn't really excited about it enough to sit down and play it, so I'm gonna have to twist his arm to get that to happen, and I don't want to.

Doing tax shit for my company with the state of Illinois is ridiculous.  They made it really hard for me to give them money.  Rule one of any organization should be make it SIMPLE to give them money.

Rule #1 of Government, is overcomplicate simple things.

Udemy has real good courses on programming. I'm not a big fan of online learning - but I complete their courses, and I learn shit.

Here is what I learned this weekend. I do not like Vegas. It is not glamorous. It is full of desperate, sad people who want to live vicariously through being near glamorous people - and it turns out that on The Strip I'm just one of those people, but on Freemont Street, I *am* one of the glamorous people. I'm one of the kings of the seedy, broken down, decrepit Off-Strip Vegas.

That isn't a good thing. :)

Also, the problem with Phoenix is - Vegas is the destination you're most likely to end up going to.

Got a rock chip in the window of my M4 before I even got to Wikiup - just North of Wikenburg. Right dead center in the driver's line of site.

But... I did have a lot of fun driving there and back. That part didn't suck. I think I probably hit 110 or 120 at top. No 140 MPH sprints. But I'm still learning the dynamics of this car. I was doing 100 MPH up and down grades on pretty tight curves...

The thing we went for, LS Fest - was all a bunch of Chevy guys going... "Watch muh rubber burn!"

Guys in old Pontiacs and Camaros that made LOTS of noise, mostly. But, they're Mostly Lots Of Noise guys, too. ;)

There were some pretty badass cars out there too. A Datsun 510 with an LS engine ripped through the autocross course. Then it got windy.

Oh... Vegas is  still in pretty much full lockdown panic mode. So, we couldn't get a seat anywhere for dinner. Finally we ordered a $300 take out dinner from Vic and Anthony's. We had whisky cocktails while waiting - and the Maitre D comped us a house specialty... and the entire staff treated us like royalty. That was nice. Got a couple's massage too - and that night, after the 1.5 drinks, went to bed at nine.

Woke up this morning, my wife was going to Starbucks, I said, "Wait up and I'll have a smoke." Left with her, she insisted on going to Starbucks, so I smoked out in the entrance area. Walked to Starbucks, no sign of her... I didn't have my phone or room key. Asked strangers to call her. They said, "Ok... what is her number?"

I went... "OH FUCK!"

Heh. It was a disaster. There are two Starbucks in the Nugget. I was going to the wrong one. The one with no line. She went to the one right off Freemont, with a 45 minute line. So... we got that sorted out, and then I was like, "I'm fucking done with Vegas, let's go home."

The drive home was awesome. Avg. cruising speed was probably about 90mph... but there were several 120+ moments - and no tickets. Everyone drives like a bat out of hell though... so it didn't seem THAT fast most of the time. But it is nice when you're going 105 MPH and some guy thinks he is going to ride your ass, and when it opens up, you can show him exactly how reasonable and *slow* you were actually driving.

"Oh... you thought this was fast?!?"

"NO. THIS... is fast..."

Fast is when I have to hold the steering wheel with both hands at 3 and 9 and when I get pins and needles realize I should relax my grip a little.

So... anyhow - I'm back.  Just a little the worse for wear.

I know, I'm one of the OLD Citadel shells, but I've been spoiled by FarceBook. This board so needs a LIKE button, or an upvote and downvote set. I find myself looking for it every time I see a message that I like, like the one above this one. Communicating your pleasure should be a part of the BBS experience!

We will have lost some messages from today. I migrated the machine. We are now running in a VM on a hypervisor. This creates several advantages for me, and for you as end users.

Otherwise, the change should be transparent, I believe - and may even have some performance benefits. I've thrown 2 processors at it for now. It may run faster.

A couple of quick reboots to try and get it to activate multiple processors. Did not work. We're running on 1, 1 socket, 1 core. I'll have to research why it won't let the VM have more than that and how to fix this, if possible.

Watching the performance monitoring, the system is barely hitting 10% of 1 cCPU - so I don't think that we're resource starved for CPU cycles. If it is running slower in certain parts - it is probably a function of the network pipe. When I come in locally, it is very zippy - but it is basically easier for me to come in over the public network now - because of the limitations of Proxmox networking and console management.

So, it seems slower to me, because I'm used to a local connection most of the time - but I'm uncertain it actually *is* slower.

As long as it seems no worse, it is a total win.

Running it in a VM opens up all kinds of possibilities.

Broke the webcit service pretty bad there trying to get back to having it land at the lobby.

Fixed it... but it was sketchy.

And of course, I've been putting off making a clone of the server. So I didn't have a quick backup/recovery solution.

Done playing around with this for a while. It is fixed now. Sorry about the downtime - though it apparently only affected TheDave.

The ride may be a little bumpy. I've got things working - but there is some sketchy shit going on under the hood.

Something got messed up with the SSL listener for Webcit - basically making it not know which port it was on - and although it was running on the regular port, it was failing to respond. I've got a work around that seems to have fixed the issue, and I'm asking Ig about what I might have done to cause it.

Basically, our SSL engine failed last night, and I fixed it by starting up a DIFFERENT SSL engine, I guess... but the failing one was still restarting and failing every few seconds. That seemed bad - so today I tried to fix it, and both SSL engines failed - the one I added, and the one that was always restarting and failing.

Now I've got BOTH engines running - but I am unsure how to make the EXTRA one stop. Neither are failing though - and the extra one doesn't do much as long as no one is going to it (and no one probably is). It basically just means that SSL is available on TWO ports instead of one and probably that we're consuming a small amount of extra resources in memory and CPU cycles for the extra SSL port.

Which is fine - but I'd like to figure how to shut that one down and just get the one that is SUPPOSED to be working working again.

Anyhow... no redirect to the "hello" room for now - as that is what caused this entire fucking mess. :)

This BBS is a trip. I'll have a sudden burst of activity with 5 or 6 really active posters, all having conversations...

Then, the next week, it'll be me, TheDave sitting in the lobby, and a webcrawler, every time I look at the userlog for days on end.

And every major improvement I make to the BBS - since it began on the Pi - seems to result in fewer users interacting LESS often.

Also - I note that my userbase was mostly pro-Trump conservatives at the peak of the Pi BBS - and - those same users have disappeared on the other social media sites since the defeat.

Not sure what the correlation is there - you would think it would have driven them all here - but it didn't. It just seems to have made them kind of abandon online social media altogether.

The post-election paranoia seems to have had a chilling effect at least as much on people's *desire* to exercise freedom of speech as on their ability to engage in it.

I think lots of people are head-down and scared right now.

A guy named Phil logged in a few days ago - right during the transition. His account and his message were lost in the migration.

If he comes back - this is Citadel - a Groupware software that also serves as a mail server and a Bulletin Board System.

Uncensored.citadel.org is its home base.

and citadel.org is where you can download it.

It is FOSS - Free Open Source Software, for Linux.

If you have any additional questions, I hope you log back in and create a new account and I'd be happy to answer them, for you.

Continuing, since I got kicked out of my message! . . .and what's keeping me on FarceBook is my Friends and relatives who aren't smart or flexible enough for the other places I frequent, like here and MeWe. I heard that Parler was back up, and tried to get on there today, but my big problem is that I don't have a cellphone, and they require one to get an account. I didn't get an account before they were squashed by Amazon, and I still want to try now. Today's failure to establish an account was because I gave them my daughter's cellphone number and they sent a code to it by text, but I was here and she was home. I'll try it again tomorrow, when she's visiting me, and can give me the code directly. I may not find what I'm looking for there, as I didn't find it on MeWe, but I've gotta check. I'm too old to start my own BBS again and invite everybody there.

Yeah - and oddly, we don't talk about politics much at all here, without them here. We already know what we both believe, and we both agree on most issues - so there isn't really anything to say on that subject.

It is only when the rest of them show up and start shoving THEIR attitudes down our throats that these discussions come up. They actually start the conversations, and then become outraged at us for speaking up on our own disagreement.

But - you're the only one from that circle on Facebook that got called "my echo chamber," that comes here on a regular basis - or really, at all... and you don't come here for the echo chamber. People are just silly.

And honestly, I tried MeWe and Parler and the problem I had with those sites is - they're just the Right leaning version of the Twitter/Facebook Left echo chamber. I'm NOT interested in that.

This is how our society tends to operate though. The "Anti-Racists" don't really want to do away with racism - they want to change the victims of racism to the people they think were RESPONSIBLE for racism. The "Anti-Homophobes," don't want to end homophobia, they want to practice heterophobia. People don't want to *end* discrimination - they want to be the ones *practicing* discrimination against those they feel oppressed by.

That isn't what WallofHate is about. WallOfHate embraces the idea that it is OK to hate everything and everybody equally. We're hatred socialists - we want to redistribute the hatred equitably throughout society, so that everyone is getting their fair share... as opposed to one side getting to practice ALL the hatred while the other side gets it all.

Facebook is a hatred oligarchy.

:)

That was supposed to be pro-Trump, of course, and it was my fumble fingered attempt to fix it that somehow saved the message and kicked me out I suppose I could have been a Professor in Trump's attempt to be a University. I didn't have it any worse than he did, and it cost me less. I'm still hoping to be alive to vote for the Donald in the next Presidential election. I'd vote for Col. LOL. In the old days, you know this would have resulted in a "Prof. Trump" account disrupting all of the local 916 Citadels. It is really strange that everyone joined the Citadel group on Facebook - but the group itself is pretty much dead.

I'll tell you what, Jerry - we'll know for sure if you're still alive for the next election. If you're not, you'll surely be back to voting Democrat. ;)

Here is to at least another 3 administrations of Republican votes for Jerry Moore. :)
