Subject: MT32-Pi Rasberry Pi DAC Suggestion

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm seriously considering getting a MT32-Pi for my MiSTer setup. The issue I am having is finding a DAC that I can connect to the Pi that will allow me to have decent audio out from it.

I have read that the Pi's analog audio out isn't the greatest, especially when the audio being outputted is low volume. Something about the audio jack being a PWM connection. I keep seeing a DAC being suggested if you want decent audio from the Pi.

The issue is that every solution I have seen so far for the Pi requires the DAC to be connected to the Pi's GPIO pins which I'm planning on using for the MT32-Pi that I want to use. So I'm looking for a good DAC solution that I can use on the Pi to get audio out while using the MT32-Pi. I would prefer a digital output like optical TOSLINK but I can live with just two RCA connection as the output if it works with the Pi while a MT32-Pi is connected to the Pi.

And maybe I am not understanding how the MT32-Pi works. Is the MIDI audio that the Pi is generating output from the Pi or is it output from the MiSTer?

If it's the MiSTer then I'm already good to go since I have a mini-TOSLINK to TOSLINK cable that I can get digital audio out of my MiSTer with.

Can anyone suggest me a good FPGA for implementing Projects like Gameboy and maybe Gameboy Advance on top? Something which has necessary functionalities and on cheaper side.

Subject: Mister case with io board, without the usb hub, any recommendations?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I don't have the usb addon board, still considering if I really need it or not. Are there any good cases to hold the de-10 nano and io board only?

Subject: MiSTER daughterboards (Ironclad, Multisystem, etc)?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all -- I'm new to this and was lucky enough to get a DE-10 Nano.

I saw the traditional way to enjoy MiSTER is to just use a USB-OTG hub, and beyond that to get the add on boards. But I'd like something all-in-one if possible.

Does anyone have a breakdown of what's available and some of the pros/cons?

So far I see Ironclad, Multisystem (which is sold out?), and Antonio Villena's boards, and I'm not sure what their differences are.

I'm also not sure where to get the add ons from. I live in Canada but could pick up from US sources too.

Thanks! I didn't find anything else on the sub, other than posts talking about each (no comparisons).

Subject: DE-10 Nano worth it with educational discount?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Has anyone else gotten a DE-10 Nano from Terasic (or otherwise, seems they're the only ones with it in stock as of now) using the educational discount option? I'm a student so I'm eligible, but I'm wondering if the "not allowed to loan or give to anyone else" clause can cause any issues. I'm also considering if the extra $40 is worthwhile should I ever sell it in the future.
