Subject: USB conversion kit - C64 / Speccy

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Does anyone know of similar conversion kits as this one for the Commodore 128;

Or this one, if search term; "ZX Spectrum USB keyboard conversion kit" Which is also from same firm, and has great reviews on the page...

...though sadly seems that the company behind both these, Tynemouth Software, no longer are selling or have their shop.

I have my MiSTer in the stack case currently. And a pretty basic USB keyboard for when loading up Speccy, Amiga, ST cores.

I have a fondess for the ZX 128+2 grey model. And would love to get a 'broken'... [understand wouldn't wish to waste a fixable one - but where cassette deck broke but could still use the kboard parts] ...ZX which could just gut out the Datacorder cassette section and have my MiSTer stack rest in place there.

So I'd have just a large ZX 128+2 keyboard with MiSTer built in, and the keyboard would also be functional thanks to such a USB conversion kit.

I cant find any such kits though. I have seen Instructables but beyond me, involving mappings etc. These conversion kits which Tynemouth Software were selling looked to be a more plug & play solution.

Just visualising how would look makes me smile, and I want my MiSTer sat in a 128k +2 now.

Anyone know anyone selling such kits still?

Subject: Favorite Controllers for Portable Cores?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

The Analogue Pocket Dock seems to have generated a lot of excitement for playing handheld games on the big screen. On a related note, I am curious which controllers people like to use when playing cores of portable systems.

I know a lot of folks want their retro gaming to be as close to the original experience as possible; I would love to hear how y'all balance the challenges and compromises of recreating the magic with the transition from handheld to television.

These are some of the controllers I can think of that are arguably "original hardware":

And for everyone using controllers that are convenient or handy or have the right look, feel, and/or number of buttons — what are your favorites?

Finally, here is, maybe an unconventional, recommendation from me: I like the feel of the 8BitDo Lite (with the left digital joystick mapped as the d-pad) for GBA games.

Thank you for your thoughts and recommendations!

- MC

P.S. I have to admit that I am weirdly intrigued by the Hyperkin SmartBoy and wondering if anyone has ever tried connecting one to a MiSTer.

Is this something I build myself or buy pre built? Is it cheaper to build myself? What parts do I need? Also does it support hdmi? I tried to get analogue console and they’re always out of stock and I heard mister was even better!

Subject: 128 MB SDRAM board not working

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello all,

I recently ordered an SDRAM board from a reputable seller, and it has caused me some issues. I sent an email to the seller hoping they would be able to help me, but I'm going to copy it here to ask help of this community because at this point I am kind of getting desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased the 128 MB SDRAM from your store. I installed it today, and it has resulted in some strange behaviors. Previously I had a 32 MB board that I bought off amazon, which worked fine. I installed the 128 MB board and the Mister fails to recognize it properly (running memtest shows it only partially recognizes it, not the full 128 MB). No cores work with the board I ordered from you, including the Genesis core which does not require SDRAM. I reinstalled the Mister OS with no change in the issue. When I swapped back to my 32 MB board, it also is failing to be recognized (memtest shows 0, no memory detected), although the Genesis core does work with that board installed. This has me worried that it's not just the new board that is faulty. Any idea what could be causing this issue? I would hate to think that your board could have damaged my DE-10 Nano, but that's the only conclusion I've been able to come to so far. Please let me know if you are able to help."

Again, any help would be incredibly appreciated. Also I can provide more details if necessary.

Subject: Consoles work great, Jotego arcade cores work great, but most 80s arcade games won't display anything with my setup?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

(pasting my mister.ini in a comment to not clog the top post)

I've tested my mister using a 4k HDMI panel, on which everything works fine, and a 20" PVM 1953MD (a CRT SDTV), where earlier arcade cores give me audio with "no signal" on my monitor. Nintendo games (Donkey Kong etc) work, Capcom games work, SEGA games seem to work. Galaga and Galaga 3 seem to work, as does Dig Dug. Pac-Man and Galaxian do not.

What I'm suspicious about is my method for getting component video. I'm using the Rankie HDMI to VGA convertor, which the mister community has tested and says works well, then sending that through the Retrotek VGA to component transcoder (a $100 transcoder made for enthusiasts, comparable to a retrotink RGB2Comp). I suspect that transcoder does not like whatever it is getting when these cores load up, but I can't for the life of me figure it out.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am a previous patreon to nullobject and have the last ESP Ra.De and Guwange cores which I havnt fired up for a while. Now dont work, I get a black screen on the latest Mister update, even when changing SDRAM to DDR3 and setting the PCB correctly in the core settings

Are these working for anyone else?

I have DDP and Dangun working but I had to load up old backups of my files but they do work

any thoughts are welcome, thank you

Subject: Is a N64 core even possible?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

With PSX and Saturn coming along nicely it got me wondering about N64. I have a HDMI-modded N64 which is perfection, but boy would it be nice to have everything in one handy sexy little box.

I'd imagine PSX and Saturn is a bit more powerful and requires a bit more under the hood which tells me N64 should be possible, but it also seems like N64 has always been harder to emulate so maybe it's more difficult to make a core for it?
