Subject: DOS Collection

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all, not sure if this has been asked/answered. I want to use the VHD files that flynnsbit created for DOS games (I already have the Top 300 one), but they are separated by year, for example, 1991-2000 are 10 separate files. Is there any (relatively) easy way to merge or combine these?

If, not, I see what appears to be a more complete collection, MiSTer AO486 ExoDOSv4 FlynnsBIT Collection v17. But, not really sure what they are talking about with the need to create my own CD collection which requires close to 500 GB. I prefer to keep everything on my 400 GB SD card, if I download this collection, will it not work without that CD collection?

Sorry for the questions, thanks for any help.

Subject: Suggestions for a good low latency wired USB dual stick controller

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

With the MiSTer PSX core making big strides lately, I'm thinking about getting a dual stick controller for when it's ready for prime time.

Right now I have a USB Retro-Bit 8 button Genesis pad. It's nice for retro gaming, but I prefer dual shock style for PS1. I don't know which USB controller would be best latency wise and would like to see your suggestions. Thanks!

Subject: Noticed an error in Sonic the hedgehog

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I went to play sonic 1 today, and I was greeted with this error on the title screen. I deleted the genesis core, reinstalled it. I was hoping that would fix it. It sadly did not, I posted a picture below and MD5 value from the ROM (1BC674BE034E43C96B86487AC69D9293). I posted this on the mister forums, But I am waiting for approval. Has anyone else had this issue? https://i.imgur.com/sHQ50kQ.jpg

Subject: Adding an external USB drive

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

As my space on my 400 GB card starts to fill up, I am thinking I'd be better off using an external drive. A few questions:

  1. I currently have all my DOS folders and VHDs in games/ao486 on the SD card. Is it just a matter of literally moving it to a games/ao486 folder on the USB drive? Will the MiSTer automatically find those files?
  2. Can I use both concurrently? For example, keep the Top 300 VHD on the SD card but put other VHDs on the USB? Will the system be able to allow me to choose from the list of all files whether they are on the SD or USB?

Thanks for any help.

Subject: Bluetooth Not Working

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all,

Was hoping for some help connecting a Bluetooth 8bitdo SN30 Pro controller. It works fine when connected with USB. I can get it to connect through the OSD, the screen goes through searching, pairing, connecting, and done, I can feel the rumble on the controller, the light shows it's connected. I can't do anything with the controller at that menu so I assume I have to configure the buttons.

The problem is that when I hit Enter on the USB keyboard to go Finish, it takes me to the Cores menu...and the only key that works is Enter. I can't navigate the menu with the arrow keys like normal, F12, Windows key-F12, CRTL-F12...nothing works, it's literally just the Enter key.

Any thoughts what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for any help.

Subject: What does the future have in store for FPGA-accelerated gaming on PC? Dedicated PCI-express FPGA cards? USB3 powered FPGA dongle cards? It's exciting that really any of these things could happen.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

The PC is a great platform, but general purpose CPUs aren't really "endgame" for some types of emulation. I think that crown belongs to the FPGA, as I've learned by watching the glorious progress of the MiSTer project in recent years.

That being said, the PC is an inherently open and limitless platform - whatever it can't do, it just absorbs via dedicated hardware add-ons.

So... how will the PC adapt? Opinions?

Subject: What would provide the best component video quality for MiSTer?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A MiSTer component cable, or a MiSTer RGB cable combined with a Retrotink RGB2Comp converter? This would be using the analog io board btw.

It may seem like a stupid question as one would assume a direct MiSTer to Component cable would be superior versus adding an additional converter into the chain, however I've heard color when outputting component directly from the MiSTer is not completely accurate.

Keep in mind I already own the Retrotink converter so price would be about the same either way, I'm just wondering what would produce the best image quality.
