Not all games will work from this site. They come bundled and configured to run with DOSBox. You shouldn't try to load them from the default DosBOX launcher that is bundled, but by going into the root application folder and clicking on the actual executable for the game. Sometimes this will throw up a .dll error - usually looking for DirectX, even if you have it installed on the system. They've pointed the game executable to look in the DOSBox directory for the necessary .dll I think. There is probably a way to fix this and make it look for the installed Windows directX .dll instead - but I haven't spent any time looking for this. 

ao486 Windows setup on MiSTer - save yourself some headache. Windows doesn't like being installed on one set of hardware and moved to another - and while it was *easier* to achieve this with older versions of Windows, it was never a good idea. 

The easiest thing to do is use something like Oracle Virtual Box to make yourself a .vhd image of 2-4 GB. Boot with a system floppy .img for Windows 95 or Windows 98. Ensure that fdisk and format are on that boot floppy. 

Use fdisk to partition the vhd drive. The defaults should work fine. 

Once done, format the drive. Format it with the /S switch - will make it a bootable DOS drive and copy command.com to the root of C:

Now close that VM, and use something like Daemon Tools to mount this .vhd as a local volume. With your install CD in your CD drive, or a .iso mounted as a CD, copy the entire install disk from the optical drive onto the VHD drive. 

I create a subdirectory c:/Win98 and copy the entire CD there. 

Unmount the .vhd, insert your MiSTer SD card into your PC, and copy the .vhd to your ao486 directory. 

Return the SD card to your MiSTer, boot, load your ao486 core. Select the .vhd as your primary hard drive and apply hard drive settings and reset. It will boot to a command line. 

CD to your Windows install directory, and run setup. 

Windows will install clean into a /windows directory on your C: drive. After copying files, settings things up, detecting hardware and a couple of reboots - you'll have a clean native install of Windows 9x on your MiSTer. 

It did detect a local null network when I set up this way, but it isn't getting dhcp leases. I think this has something to do with the modem.inf file in the GitHub repo - but I haven't figured out how to make this work yet. 

I've been so busy figuring this out I haven't had a chance to make documentation with screenshots - but once I get time, I'll do that as a step by step document and publish it here. 

I'll probably also upload base images, just a C: drive with a Win98 setup directory, the same with a Win95 setup directory, and images preinstalled and set up with Windows 98 and Windows 95, as well to the directory tree here on the bbs.

I'm having trouble uploading the Windows .iso and .vhd images. I'll continue to try and get those and the other files related to Win98 on ao486 uploaded here when I get a chance.

You're paying too much. Buy a MiSTer, and relive ALL the old games, for free. MiSTer will recreate, at bare metal, everything up to a 486SX but running pretty fast, probably the speed of a 486SX66 - which never really existed. 

They're an awesome retro gaming device. Everything from the Atari 2600 on up. Amiga, Atari and Commodore 8 bit, 16 bit, and 486. NeoGeo, NES, SNES... lots of others I don't even care about. You can literally play tens of thousands of games, almost every game ever up to the Pentium days, for free.
