Subject: Is there a way to force mono audio?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm using my mister with a PVM that only has mono audio out. Some cores have a setting for stereo mixing which works fine, but I'm not seeing it in say the genesis core and I'm definitely not getting both channels, or at least they're not mixed very well. Is there some other way to just force all audio to be mono?

Subject: A few questions about the Mister

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

With the upcoming PS1 core, I'm seriously considering getting a Mister. I was wondering if you guys could answer a few questions first.

  1. Realistically, how accurate is the Mister in comparison with real hardware? I'm not that educated about hardware emulation vs software emulation so this question may be too broad if it varies from core to core. Are there still emulation bugs in games, timing issues, etc?
  2. Do games output native resolution automatically or must you switch it manually? I'm interested in hooking it up to a CRT via component and native resolution matters to me. One thing that annoyed me with the Wii was some consoles output different resolutions for different games, and some games even switch resolution. Emulation on the Wii didn't account for that, and it didn't output native resolution for non-240p resolutions such as the Atari 2600.
  3. How does the accuracy of the Mister compare to options such as flash carts and ODEs?

I realize my questions are probably too broad, but do your best to give me a generalized answer if you can. Thanks!

Subject: Hidden Gems?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Been loving my MiSTer so far. I only currently have ROMs for NES/SNES/GBC/GBA/Genesis/TurboGrafix16. A lot of other systems listed, are there any "hidden gems" I should be checking out? The lack of write would eliminate Apple II for now. Not a huge arcade guy (I know, blasphemy!), what other computers/consoles are others enjoying?

Subject: Joystick recommendations

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Any suggestions for (I assume USB) joysticks for cores like the Apple and C64? I am thinking the classic 2-button-style joysticks. I have a few Apple II joysticks (Kraft, CH), is there a way to convert the 9-pin on those to USB? I have seen a bunch of adapters for Atari joysticks, not sure if they would work on the Apple on though.

Subject: Mister no audio over hdmi

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey guys, just got a basic mister setup (no io boards or anything) and I'm not getting any audio over hdmi. Global volume is all the way up, even tried a hdmi audio extractor and running the audio separately. Feel like I'm missing something, any ideas?

Subject: DOS questions

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all,

Been exploring the MiSTer for days, what I really want to be able to set up are DOS games. I followed the instructions here and everything works great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSqGTil-N38. I'm a bit confused about what to do next. I know how to create VHDs, I assume I just create an 8 GB VHD, mount it, and install the games using the respective Install file.

I have the entire ExoDOS collection but really don't need to have 7000 DOS games. What about floppies that are not in .img format? See attached. It seems like the core is only looking for .img, .vhd, or .iso files, do I need to convert those somehow in order to install? A few have install.exe files, some don't even install to HD, looks like you just run a .bat or some other.exe, do these still work with MiSTer?

Thanks for any help.

Subject: TGFX16 core has me stumped

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Recently got my MiSTER and have been enjoying lots of consoles and old computer games, but the Turbo Graphx core is giving me fits. I’m using the latest from GitHub (09102021), but any time I load a .pce or a cue/bin file, I just get a black screen. I can pull up the core menu and load another rom, but just a black screen again. I have my cd_bios.rom file in the root of my CD directory. I’m using component video out through the analogue IO board which works well for other console cores. Is there something special here that I’m missing?

Subject: Atari ST core question

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have read that the ST is not yet in "Superstar" status, meaning it is not yet perfect. What problems are there with it?

Just ordered my Mister today, and look forward to the ST after not having real hardware for many years. Emulation is good, but can not wait for FPGA.
