Subject: UK MiSter setup and price (RGB output is key)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Thinking of going in for my first Mister setup. I want to be able to run as many cores as possible. Usb for controllers / multiplayer gaming. And VERY importantly, I would like VGA (or even better, RGB scart) output as well as HDMI.

To buy something already bundled and setup to go, how much am I looking at spending, and what's a good UK source?

Thanks

Subject: Change background while playing a game?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey all,

New Mister user here. I am trying to find a way to change the black border around 5:3 and 4:3 games on widescreen TVs to have some kind of display other than straight black. Similar to how the Super Gameboy creates a border when playing a game through it. Not sure if it is possible as I can't find any information on backgrounds in game other than the menu screen. Thank you!

Subject: SNAC support on Chinese v6.0 IO boards

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I recently saw this article (https://ozmistermods.com/blogs/news/psa-mister-analog-io-boards-with-broken-snac-compatibility-in-the-wild) about the user port not actually being connected because they didn't bother soldering on a header. I'm guessing I can just solder in a header to fix this, right? Seems like a pretty simple job.

But the more important issue is how do I get Mega Drive SNAC working on these boards? I've heard that everything prior to 6.1 needs a hardware mod, is there anywhere with a guide on that? I've had a look at the schematics and it doesn't look too complex, I just have to solder a 100ohm resistor between pin 10 on P7 to my own IO6 (probably just a toggle switch with a label on it), cut the trace on the userport pin where it connects C4 (and after where it connects to RN13), and join that 3.3V supply to the other side of my switch, with the middle of the switch just going to the userport pin.

And then, I need to have another wire going from C4 to RN13 to restore the loop I cut earlier, as well as a 10k resistor going to pin 10 on P7. I think that should be everything, but I don't know much about electronics, so maybe I'm missing something obvious.

Subject: What two button controller for two button systems (Turbografx, Game Gear, NES, etc)?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

What controller are you using for systems that uses a two button controller setup?

I've been taking a look at the 8bitdo TurboGrafx controller, just looking for more options I may not have heard of

Subject: What are some games that are the most noticeable between regular emulation and FPGA?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

The most noticeable systems to me so far are games on Apple ][, ColecoVision and Atari 5200. For the Apple ][, the sound has always been weird no matter what emulator I use. For coleovision and atari5200, the games were always dodgy looking and when it worked, sometimes the controls didn't work quite right. Some games like Pengo just flat out didn't work. For coleocovision, it plays straightforward like most NES emulators. But always a bit off until now.

Subject: Moon Patrol only at 50Hz / PAL. How to switch to 60Hz/ NTSC?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I haven't gone through all the games but it seems that at last Moon Patrol when on analog is outputting 50Hz instead of 60 like most of the other cores? Can someone else verify this or know of a work around?

Like can I get another rom to change this behavior or is it built into the core?

Yes, it works fine via HDMI out / digital.

Subject: Question of MiSTer looking it's best

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've finally, after watching a lot of YT videos, ordered my DE-10 Nano. Next week I will be ordering my parts, especially those SNAC adapters for my control pads.

But, I'm wondering what is the best image I can achieve with MiSTer setup? I'm sure either/any will look pretty bloody good, but I'd like to start off best I can.

So, if I were to hook up via HDMI to an LED 4K telly, or, get some output to connect via SCART on a B&O CRT? Is the CRT considerably better image, or with some tweaking in the MiSTer configuration to scan lines etc able to make the LED a better picture?

I guess this is probably subjective, in which case, any of you who have opinions I'd be glad to read them.

I'm UK based, and for my original console hardware I do prefer to connect my RGB SCART for my Megadrive and Speccy, over playing those on my LED. But when comes to MiSTer, I wonder if config would sway towards the LED?

Thanks. And I look forward to learning more as I go on with MiSTer project

Subject: No picture over s-video with Antonio Villena

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

This is a cross-post from /r/crtgaming, I thought possibly someone here might have some insight as to what is going on.

I recently got a Sony KV-9PT50 and s-video modded it based on /u/stabarz's recent post.

Quick recap that mod:

  • luma goes into the composite input

  • chroma goes into the jungle (pin 5) with a 75R terminating resistor and through a .1uF cap

Both my Dreamcast and PS2 work and look great through s-video.

I recently received Antonio Villenaโ€™s S-Video Adapter for MiSTer , however it does not work. When turning on the MiSTer the TV flashes, but then I get no video.

I was thinking it was the MiSTer adapter, however the adapter works great over S-video when connected to a larger Phillips CRT, and on an older Samsung LCD and in both cases the picture looks really good.

The MiSTer adapter also works on the KV-9PT50 when using composite when switched to that input (physical switch installed as part of the mod), it just doesn't look great with a ton of dot crawl.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
