Subject: X1: Confused about Tech Pack / Tech PlusPack and parking cameras?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm interested in the X1 and trying to get my brain around the specs.

The base models come with "Parking Assistant incl. Active Park Distance Control and Reversing Assist Camera". It seems that this does not even give a top down view when parking. If you add Technology Plus Pack you get Parking Assistant Plus which has "the camera-based functions of Assistance View, Panorama View and 3D view. Cameras at the front and rear and in the exterior mirrors provide a 360° view around the vehicle including a three-dimensional visualisation". I don't need 3D visualisation but I do like a top down view when parking.

Does this mean (in the UK at least) that unless you specify Tech Plus Pack the car doesn't even have front and side cameras?

The UK Connected drive store offers Parking Assistant Professional which seems to have the top down camera, but I don't know if that can be added to the new X1.

Can anyone clarify?

how do VIN decoder websites such as mdecoder.com get such a complete list of options and equipment using just a VIN number?

somehow the result via mdecoder.com is just as detailed as the build sheet that my dealer printed out....

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

My coworker said he had a 328i e36 that made 400 whp with no forced induction. He said just mostly FBO. But I don’t think that sounds right. Am I being too skeptical or is he somewhat right?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all, car guy here who has never owned a BMW but always appreciated them. I'm looking at a 2018 328i wagon for a daily driver. Anything to look out for specifically? If maintained properly, how long can you expect them to run?

Subject: Should quit before its too late

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Im working as technician in official bmw dealership. A day before had 540i LCI (g30) (with aftermarket ECU tune !!!), for oil and air filter change. While cleaning air filter box i put some paper towel in pipe to turbocharger and forget about it… The Client was driving and the drivetrain malfunction error came up, he went to shop where he installed Ecu tune. They scan car and find turbo pressure error, after they find towel in pipe. They used an endoscope to see if anything got into the turbine, turbine where ok with no towel. After it they run car but more errors came up (misfire & catalytic converter damage). Could it just be a bug and software issue or could the engine be seriously damaged?
