I’m in the market for a new (to me) daily and the M140i is high on my list. Whilst I’d like to say I’m an able and confident driver, I’ve never owned a performance RWD car, and I’ve heard the handling of the M140i can be quite unpredictable in stock form/ open diff.
That’s not to say I’m going to be sticking it straight in Sport Plus and flooring it out of corners, but I d like to develop my driving ability a little as I get comfortable with the car, without ending up in a ditch of course. From reviews etc it’s hard to gauge how useable it is with the open diff, from a daily ‘spiritied’ driving standpoint. People just say the LSD improves the handling, predictability and usability significantly.
All the 2nd hand models I’ve seen with either the M sport or aftermarket LSD are quite far out of my budget. I’d also rather not buy a car then have to spend £2k+ on an upgraded diff. Is it something you mainly notice if you’re driving the car hard?
