Hello reddit! Let me introduce myself first. I am a 17 year old, high school senior, working 2 part time jobs, with a drivers permit (DL comes in 2 months!)

My dream car has always been a BMW since I was about 6. It has always been my dream and goal to own one. Now that I am old enough and about to graduate, and now that I have enough funds to support myself, I am looking into a few as a my first car! I came across a 2012 BMW 328i, 98k miles, clean title; all within my budget! I’ve spoken to the seller and he’s willing to lower his price for me.. however, my mom is furious and highly against it. Has she had friends with issues with their BMW’s and she has that unreliability reputation mentality. She will not let me buy one whatsoever; saying I need something better like a Honda/Toyota/Chevy/basically anything other than a BMW. What are your thoughts? Go ahead and buy one behind her back? Wait until I’m 18? Listen to her advice? I’ve made it clear I want this dream to come true. And I will not allow her to control my investments.

This is why I hate on-street parking in cities. And it wasn't even a quiet area, it was on a well-lit street full of people at 10am on a Tuesday. 🤦

For anyone who is on their first 'luxury' car, how do you get past the anxiety of worrying about anything happening to it, or anyone mistreating it? I have the car garaged 90% of the time but sometimes it's unavoidable that it needs to sleep outside.

I had a bunny eat through my steering rack wire and caused the power steering to stop working, 2015 428xi with low mileage in good shape. Took it to dealer who said the steering rack needs replacement. The cost of this is 7k. Filed a claim with insurance, Allstate. They sent some 3rd party adjuster out there who claims the cost to repair is $586. Insurance issued me a check for $86 (my deductible is 500). Crazy difference obviously. I presume that the adjuster thinks the wire itself can be fixed and the entire steering rack doesn’t need it, not really sure. I spoke with a local mechanic and was told they can’t do this fix and To go to dealer bc it requires software updating. Feel kind of stuck, appreciate thoughts.

After a few months of ownership of my G80, I found some of the options I got are useless, and when I reflect back I regret some of the options I didn't get.

Here are the options I regret getting:

Laser Headlights: These neutered for the US market.

Wireless Charging Pad: They overheat my iPhone and it's only 5W at that too. According to the forums, this is common.

Here are the options I regret not getting:

Parking Assistance Package: I didn't know at the time that this has surround view recording as well as surround view camera. I recently curbed my rim, and perhaps this would've helped in preventing it.

Personal eSIM 5G: I was thinking, why do I need wifi if I have my phone as a hotspot. What I didn't know at the time, was that if you have this option, your phone can use the car's better cellphone antenna for better connection.

Drive Recorder: This was not available when I ordered my car, so I don't blame myself for not getting this, but for $100, it woud've been a no brainer.
