Subject: Need some help with a used BMW please

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I have my sights set on a BMW. I have done extensive research about maintenance costs. I understand that it is necessary to regularly maintain the vehicle, often, and the costs associated (tires, synthetic oil, premium gas, etc). Also this will be a daily driver (5K-10K) miles a year. I want to keep it for a while and eventually it will become my backup vehicle.

My all in budget is max $30K, preferably $25k. I’m not looking to make performance upgrades, maybe cosmetic.

I want relatively low mileage, everything I have looked at has been 40K or less miles and if the carfax doesn’t have regular oil changes I stop looking.

What is the best sedan or coupe BMW for this price range. Examples of why I am asking based on my research: Should I go for a CPO most basic model 3 series because of the warranty and it’s newer? Or older model with lower miles and more upgrades (speakers, heated seats, sun roof). It is very overwhelming because there are so many years and models that fit in my budget and I having trouble figuring out what the best bang for my buck is.

Subject: I HATE SUV'S

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Can we go back to wagons? It seems suvs literally attract the worst drivers on the road. They aren't good at anything specifically and they're marketed to the people who just want a car that they can drive like shit and not die in cause its so big and obnoxious. They have barely more functionality than a sedan and for all the people who call them trucks, get a grip, you drive a glorified wagon on a 2 inch lift. It is the worst car fad to happen recently besides these bigass grills. Maybe im missing something, but your brick on wheels is the problem with modern car design.

So I have a budget of $4K - $5k and I was wondering what you guys would recommend? I would love something I can work on and maintain. I was thinking of a 528i but I am open to all suggestions. Basically with the crazy amounts people are charging for civic’s and Corollas. I might as well ride in style and be comfortable plus have some power. This would also be my first so I’m excited at the prospect of having one.

Subject: Want to hear personal experience from you — 330i vs M340i

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Obviously the M340i is the better choice by far. Like not even close. BUT - I’ve been looking and looking, and I’m not seeing anything around me that hits all my requirements. There is a solid amount of 2023’s available, and while that would be nice, I think I’m going to opt to stick in my budget area of the 50’s. Therefore would be 2020-2022.

However, every now and then I stumble across 2023 330i’s, and I’m like “ugh.” I know people are split on the LCI, but I really like the redesign on these. I’m of the opinion it looks aggressive, which I like. Although I’m with the majority regarding the interior - would prefer the pre-LCI there. I think I could live with it though.

So I was hopping I could hear/read some personal anecdotes from those that might have owned both, or at least test drove both. I plan on doing that sometime this week, but until then, to Reddit I go!

For my purposes, I really just need a commuter. But I figured I want to enjoy the commute. You can do that in a 330i, but from what I read, there’s just something extra about the M340i that makes it best in class. The B58 engine, the handling, the exhaust note - you name it.

If I go ahead with the 330i, I will lose out on a lot of that. While still a respectable car, I’m not sure that loss of power and drive enjoyment could justify the “expensive” price of just a v4.

On top of that, I’m coming from a CHEVY SONIC LT ….. so would I even care if I’m in a 330i? That alone is going to seem like a huge improvement lol. Yes go ahead you can make fun of my buggy…

Thanks all!
